President Umar Yar'Adua on Tuesday in Abuja swapped the Minister of Interior for the Minister of Defence according to the News Agency of Nigeria. Godwin Abbe, who until the announcement was the Minister of Interior, will now become the Minister of Defence while Shettima Mustapha will move from the Defence Ministry to the Interior Ministry as Minister. The Ministers of State in both ministries were also affected by the shuffle. Abdulrahman Adamu, until now the Minister of State for Interior, is to take over from Ademola Seriki as Minister of State for Defence, while Mr. Seriki becomes the Minister of State for Interior. Mr. Abbe, a retired Major General, also heads the Amnesty Committee set up by the federal government to grant unconditional amnesty to the Niger delta militants. He was involved in consultations that led to the release of militant leader Henry Okah, who had being in detention and trial for close two years, on Monday.
