Simply means that you are not married....as long as you are not married, you are single. there are no in betweens IMO

Means you've got nobody to cheat on.

If I am asked 'are you single?' my answer is NO because I am not married.

This is completely different from 'do you have a girlfriend?' or 'are you seeing anyone right now?' which is the direct way of asking a question.

If you want to take it further, ask 'are you sleeping with anyone?'

By asking DIRECT questions, you can avoid being deceived.

Make no assumptions, ask the right questions and you'll be ok.

But the opposite of married is single, maybe you can clarify further, cheers.

It means you are not beholding to anybody or in any relationship. You can have friends,have sex yet you are not in any plan to stay with a partner.

To me its means not married or in any kind of relationship..
