N25bn Etf’ll Create Jobs, Boost Lagos Economy – Ambode by MedusaLamar: 5:38pm On Mar 03, 2016
The Governor of Lagos State, Mr.
Akinwunmi Ambode, has said the
N25bn Employment Trust Fund create
successful businesses, jobs for
Lagosians and strengthen the economy
of the state.
A statement by the Chief Press
Secretary to the governor, Habib
Haruna, quoted him as saying this
today while inaugurating the Board of
the ETF, which is chaired by a former
chairman of the Federal Inland
Revenue Service, Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui-
Okauru.
According to the governor, the ETF is
an instrument designed to galvanise
the creative and innovative energies of
all Lagosians and residents of the state.
He called on Lagosians to seize the
opportunity the fund presented,
assuring them that the process of
accessing the fund would be
transparent, and that beneficiaries
would be chosen only on the strength
and quality of their applications.
“Fellow Lagosians, this initiative has
been designed to succeed. Our
government will commit N6.25bn
every year within the four years of this
administration to a total of N25bn,”
Ambode said.
“Realising that the first year of this
administration is just three months
away, precisely on May 29, 2016, the
Commissioner for Finance is hereby
directed to transfer the sum of
N6.25bn to the Employment Trust Fund
immediately, today.”
The governor urged the Chairman and
members of the ETF Board to hit the
ground running and ensure that the
fund is operated based on global best
practices.
He said, “Every senatorial zone of the
state must feel the positive impact of
the Fund. The Board must ensure that
the distribution of the fund is evenly
spread across the state.”
He called on corporate organisations,
multilateral agencies, and individuals
to support his administration in the
quest to improve the fortunes of the
youth.
Omoigui-Okauru assured the governor
and residents of the state the board
would ensure that the ETF achieved the
goal for which it was established.
Other members of the ETF are Engr.
Dele Martins, Mrs. Bilikis Adebiyi-
Abiola, Mr. Otto Orondam, Mrs.
Olufunmi Daudu, Mr. Tunde Bank-
Anthony, Mr. Michael Ajayi, Mr. Tunde
Durosinmi-Etti and Dr. Mustapha
Akinkunmi. Mr. Akintunde Oyebode is
the Executive Secretary of the Fund.
Also, the governor inaugurated the
Civil Service Commission, chaired by
Mrs. Taiwo Oyemade, today, urging
them to work transparently and with
integrity.
