sheubaba2013: Pls stop this your propaganda shit you ve been peddling all day on nairaland. Something is fundamentally wrong with Islam in the North. It is just the bitter truth. Paedophilia is a major concern in the north. What is worrying is that the paedophilia culture is now being unleashed on people of other faith. The truth is bitter and accept the reality of Islam 2 Likes |

Daninya11: This idiots are using diabolical and magical powers to seduce this unsuspecting female minor. When they succeed, they then use their ocultic law called Sharia to give the perpetrator impunity and protection. It should be noted that it is the CONSTITUTION of this country that unit the country as a sovereign state, not Sharia. It should also be noted that NIGERIA CONSTITUTION is supreme to any other law in the country including Sharia. That the powers and authority of the President of Nigeria is derived from the constitution and not from Sharia. The late Gen. Abacha demonstrated the supremacy of the constitution over and above that of Sharia by deposing the then Sultan of Sokoto, who was the supreme leader of Islam in Nigeria, and sent him on exile. He then installed the current Sultan. The president, IGP, CDS, COAS, COAS, CONS, the Parliament , the Judiciary, all derived their powers from the Nigeria Constitution and they all took an oath and swore to protect and up hold it. If in a particular administration in Nigeria as a nation, the Northerners are permitted to raise the Sharia above the our national CONSTITUTION, the it is a permission for INDEPENDENT STATE. 2 Likes |

It is very unfortunate what is happening, our brothers from south east whenever you are leaving in the north always have this in mind north has two religion Christianity and Muslim. Try to be relating with Christian brothers and sisters than Muslim brothers and sisters because always you may see them as if they are kind and gentle but they are the most dangerous human beings in the world always looking for an advantage to destroy you. Be careful with them they don't have love for Christians generally. |

This is what boggles me!!! How can we have Sharia courts in the North and also have a secular constitution that recognizes freedom of association, religion, expression etc? Do they judge over all Nigerians in the State or just Muslims? what is their rank in the judiciary? directly under the Supreme court? How did Sharia courts in Nigeria even come about? Who are the stupid f00ls in power that allowed this unconstitutional court in Nigeria? Why didn't the northerners (and every other Nigerian) kick against it when it was set up? many questions... I would really love people who know Naija history to educate me on this topic! DerKaiser: 1 Like |

LucifersTongue:Less than 20 years ago, in 2002 precisely, Olusegun Obasanjo who is the President of Nigeria was arm twisted into allowing some northern states starting from Zamfara into implementing Sharia law. Nigerians protested but it was to no avail. They claimed it was their right and even assured non Muslims that they have nothing to fear as Sharia law is not applicable to them. Look how that has turned out. It is important to also note here that our current President was contesting for presidency back then and he assured Moslems that Sharia law is their right and he is going to fight for its total implementation. It is now clear that it is a hidden agenda for this act by those notherners picking young none muslims and converting them to islam. This is pure crime and the Federal government should see that this act is stopped, if not, it would turn to be an ugly incidence to the unity of this country.\\ I have never heard where none christians are been kidnapped and converted to christians. The national assembly and international community should look into this act and make sure that a law is passed whereby anyone who kidnaps a minor christians or muslims.for the purpose of converting same person to another religion against that person's will, has committed a felony and as such, should be convicted and sent to prison. Who knows how many of Eses' Ifeomas and their likes languishing in their domain. |

Now if one small Hausa girl now is abducted, married to a christian and converted won't this people immediately declare Jihad. I need nobody to tell me the more tolerant religion here. I don't know anymore if to blame the Hausa or the Islamic religion. The impunity at which this heinous crimes are committed under the name of Islam calls to we question what the religious leaders in Islam are doing. I would expect by now a statement from the highest body in Islam in Nigeria condemning these acts and dissociating Islam from such. 1 Like |

biggjoe: Sharia law in Nigeria has a long and interesting history. At independence in 1960, the North region was using a ''penal'' code derived from one used in Pakistan. Sharia was ''for personal/family law only '' eg divorce, marriage etc. In 1978, when the 1979 Constitution was being put together by the Military government appointed Constituent Assembly (OBJ was in charge back then, fyi), Sharia was up for discussion. This split the Assembly along religious lines....and eventually a ''compromise'' was reached whereby Sharia courts were established....but it was left to the states to see if they wanted it or not (ie...state by state). Provision was made for a Sharia COurt of Appeal at the Federal Level. And they were still dealing with ''personal '' law....not any other form of law. In 1998....when we were discussing the 1999 Constitution....the Sharia law was expanded in scope to include Criminal law.It was also left to the States to decide if they wanted Sharia. Then Ahmed Sani, the governor of Zamfara State decided to consult his people...he went from LG to LG in his state....and after getting the approval of the State Assembly....implemented Sharia. That sparked off a firestorm...and led to the implementation of Sharia in several Northern states. It must be pointed out that the then governors of Kogi (late Audu) and Kwara (Late Mohammed Lawal) declined to implement Sharia. Mohammed Lawal of Kwara even went on the record as saying that there were far more important things to worry about. Kaduna State...where Ifeoma is domiciled....is a peculiar case.Attempts to implement Sharia...led to serious riots in Kaduna city...the repercussions of which we still deal with today...and as a result...Sharia is still restricted to personal law only. The issue with Ifeoma's case has a lot to do with whether she can convert to another religion as a minor. Now...the Nigerian law is silent on this matter. In Kaduna State...as far back as 1987....the then Military Governor Abubakar Umar decided to make it illegal to convert minors either way WITHOUT WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM THEIR PARENTS. But...that was a military decree....and not necessarily formal law. I think that the National Assembly SHOULD pass a law making it illegal to convert a minor to another religion without written permission and verbal/oral permission via video from the parents....with such permission witnessed by a lawyer, and government official. Because...that is what this case is all about really. |
