The orgy of violence which has characterising the socio-political landscape of Rivers state in recent times has now reached the ancient Kalabari city of Buguma in Asari Toru local government area as one Ofingite Amachree, a well known supporter of the All Progressives Congress was this afternoon burnt alive by some gunning wielding thugs which eyewitness allege are to be working for the PDP in the area.



Only last Saturday, the APC ward 4 chairman in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, Franklin Obi was beheaded in his home alongside his wife and 18 year old son moments after serving as an MC to a public gathering of the local branch of the APC. Late Franklin Obi happens to share the same ward with Mr Felix Obuah, the Rivers state chairman of the PDP.

Residents of Rivers state, especially members of the APC who appear to be the major targets of these mindless killings now live in fear and despair as it appears the task of unravelling and bringing to book all those involved in these heinous crimes is now beyond the reach of security operatives.
Though the police is yet to comment on the latest incidence as at the time of publishing this article, many members of the APC who took to the social media to expressed their feelings, say it is clear that President Buhari and the APC do not recognise the gravity of what they have gone through and continue to go through in other to hoist the flag of the party in the state.

The surge of violence may be connected to the forthcoming parliamentary rerun elections scheduled for the 19th of March.

Meanwhile Dr Dakuku Adol Peterside, the governorship candidate of the APC in the 2015 elections in Rivers state has condemned the gruesome murder of Amachree describing it as heart-rending. A statement released by Mr Sylvester Asoye, media aide to Dr Dakuku stated that
“Peterside decried the on-going mass executions in Rivers State, describing it as frightening and unprecedented. According to him, the pathetic security situation in Rivers State is unfortunately a direct affront on the federal government’s power to protect lives and property within its territory.”
“In fact, in the last two weeks, over 30 APC members have been killed in different parts of Rivers State. We are tired of this bloodbath; this is why we are calling on the federal government and Nigerians generally to come to our aid”
Dr Peterside added that the new move to kill APC members is inspired by Governor Wike’s inciting messages asking PDP members ”to burn alive members of the opposition and other electoral personnel who stands on their way to victory in the forthcoming rerun elections in Rivers State .”
