APGA Can't Drop Acronym For Any Alliance by Nnabugwu8590: 12:02am On Mar 08, 2016 |
The National Director of Publicity for All
Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA),
Ifanacho Oguejiofor, has said the party
cannot drop its acronym which it has
developed over the years to join in any
alliance to form a political party.
Oguejiofor disclosed this at the weekend
while making clarification on the purported
merger between APGA and aggrieved
factions of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
and All Progressives Congress (APC) to form
Peoples Progressives Party (PPP).
He said specifically that it is unimaginable
for anyone to think that a well established
and registered political party like APGA will
dump its name to join an association that is
unsure if the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) will offer it any
registration to become a party.
While describing those behind the
formation of PPP as political jobbers, who
are out to swindle unsuspecting politicians,
he said APGA does not want to respond to
the issues as doing so will amount to
glorifying the association.
Oguejiofor further explained that the party
has no record where the leader of the
alleged APGA group that joined the PPP ever
existed in the party leadership both at state
and national level, adding that if former
ordinary member of APGA decides to join
another party, APGA cannot be said to have
joined such association.
While emphasising that based on a recent
ruling by the Supreme Court on the
leadership of the party, there is one united
leadership of APGA under Ike Victor Oye, he
also cautioned those trying to drag the
party’s name into unwholesome
association, saying the party will not take it
any longer.
“Our party is in total decorum, the
leadership of the party has been working
very hard to build the party structures into
a stronger political force in Nigeria ahead of
2019 elections, and there is nothing like
disenchantment whatsoever”, he said.
Speaking on the Supreme Court judgement
in which the party lost to PDP, the APGA
National Director of Publicity said it was the
card readers that made the party to lose the
election to PDP rigging strategy, explaining
that where the card readers failed, there
were serious manipulations by the PDP
agents.
He also called on the INEC to put measures
in place to ensure that the ad hoc staff
hired by the commission are well trained to
become objective, alleging that it is usually
the ad hoc staff of the commission who
compromise during elections by working
for some political parties.
Meanwhile, the party urged President
Muhammadu Buhari to rise up to the
economic challenges facing the country,
saying that Nigerians are yearning to see
the change which the party promised them
during the polls.
