Nothing destroyed the government of former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan like indecision and inability to deal with certain appointees or kitchen cabinet members perceived to be corrupt. This particular weak trait reduced the confidence Nigerians had in him and his administration to take them to the promised land .

From Stella Oduah's illegal exorbitant purchase of armoured cars, to Abba Moro's excessive and consistent charging of job seekers and homicide enrolment exercise, to Sambo Dasuki's diversion of more than $2b Insurgency emergency fund, to mention but a few. With all these happening under his supervision, none was ever prosecuted or charged to court, instead it got worse when the president went on live air to make a distinction between stealing and corruption and insinuating stealing isn't a crime as the society make it look.

If there was a particular vice that the former president had, then it was his non-chalant attitude to corruption cases. Things got worse when a serving Central Bank Governor and current Emir of Kano (Emir Lamido Sanushi) disclosed to the media that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) under the supervision of the President wasn't audited for a decade and that the Company was yet to remit to the CBN the monies accrued from crude oil sales for years. Instead of acting on that report, Sanushi was vilified, sack and his passport seized.

While the ex-president until date is yet to be indicated in any corruption case, it is shocking how his most trusted allays are arrested, interrogated and charged to court by the EFCC. These include Olisah Metu (PDP Publicity Secretary), Haliru Bello( Former PDP National Chairman), Sambo Dasuki (Former National Security Adviser). It is on this note that the action of President Muhammadu Buhari to redeploy 22 budget ministry officials to different parastatals (these person's include : four level 17 directors, six deputy directors and 12 assistant directors). The president did not stop there as he sacked the director of budget and merged his office with that of the Ministry of Planning for easy monitoring.

This might be termed "medicine after death" by Nigerians but it sure shows that the president has not only taken responsibility for the national fraud but also maintained his zero tolerance for corruption . With his actions, the message is clear that corruption will not be condoled. There is nothing as good as arresting and charging any official caught or indicted in corruption and fraud as it sends an unexplainable message to aspiring individuals planning to ply the same route, hence serving as deterrent.

It should be recalled that early this year most ministers struggled to come to terms with their budgeted figures on the floor of the National Assembly while defending their budget. The prices or values on the budget was inflated so much that it made a mockery of their real value in their various purchase points.

While this redeployment is not all that is expected of the president, surely the redeployment of these corrupt officials is the right thing to do.

Once again the president though with many flaws has recorded yet another victory in the aspect of corruption fight.

he sacked 108 people. How much time does it take to re-hire 108 new people? To screen and qualify them.
Why did it take 108 people to create a budget that he himself didn't read?

How can he admit that he didn't read the budget on aljeezera, then sack others for not doing their job but maintain his?
