AT THE CROSS-ROADS OF ROLLING HILLS
(The Vicissitudes of Uwa) A Poem

Life cheats on us
life seems like a riddle
Life teases and nudges
Life muses and makes gentle laughter
life acts drama on us
she laughs and makes no apology
she double crosses and refuse to plead

Our sense of reason is inflicted
With injuries that go septic
Yet Life poses with reckless abandon
Expressing no dismay, charity unbundled
it gives no heed to traditions of remorse
Totally insolent to the vicissitudes of things

Hopeful we remain
amidst incontestable doldrums
Rising like hills afar yet near
high enough to occlude collective hindsight
An effluvium of a distorted economy
Nigeria gutted by the wildfires of life
At dawn beyond its Golden's age
We swim in her austerity
leased to the harshness Of her hostility
Uwem tua nnyin mbóm...
culled from ECSTASIES OF OUR GOLDEN JUBILEE.
