Buhari's Defense Of Staging A Coup And His Disdain For Democracy by GworoChewinMaga: 8:19am On Mar 12, 2016 |
When asked about a transitional program and date to hand over back to democratic civilian rule , Maj. Gen. Buhari the self declared supreme military commander of Nigeria declared that : " As long as Nigerians are not able to elect credible individuals as their leaders, coup d'états will continue to be inevitable ... Nigerians are not capable of ruling themselves democratically and as for me I do not believe in the democratic process in governance in Nigeria" We can see that Buhari not only dismissed democracy as an institutional process of both electing and administration in Nigeria but also dismissed the entire electorate voting bloc as not in any way able to fully participate in the process of choosing their leaders. It is on this ground that Buhari never ever bothered with a transitional program back to democracy and if his fellow army generals had not intervened and booted him out chances are he will still be ruling Nigeria as a despotic unelected leader. |

op, it is either u r very ignorant of Nigeria history or ur bigotry and hatred for Buhari has becloud ur sense of reasoning. First of all, Buhari did not plan d coup himself, it was a general and unanimous military coup and Buhari was just fortunate to be installed as d head of state. secondly, If I may ask u, did Buhari's successor did any better in terms of transition to democracy? |

97loodbre: Buhari was the chief of army staff to Shagari and there were security reports sent to Shagari that Buhari was staging a coup . Secondly, how can you justify Buhari receiving a stolen mandate from the same individual (Shagari) he was sworn to protect? In a court of law, any indivuals who knowingly received stolen goods is an accomplice to the crime. The only ignorant fool here is you and your distorted history. Yeye |
