United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, has launched official pages in three of the most active and biggest social networking websites.

It thus becomes the first African bank to join the growing number of global financial brands that are turning to Twitter, Facebook and other social networks as a way of engaging customers on a real time basis, for thought leadership and agenda setting issues.

Following the success of an ongoing web transformation programme, UBA launched its pages on Facebook and Twitter pages as well as a channel on the video sharing website, YouTube recently. This has attracted a growing and dedicated membership resulting in making the pages some of the most active official pages on the internet, the bank said in a statement.

Its Facebook page launched on May 21, 2009, the statement explained, provides fans with latest breaking news, fraud alerts, promotional information, investor updates, corporate events, social responsibility efforts and acts as a channel for receiving and resolving customer enquiries and feedback.

It said its Twitter page www.twitter.com/ubagroup, launched on 9 April, 2009, acts as a virtual breaking news room and real time customer service helpdesk. The page also directs people to important relevant links on its website and related websites.

With its YouTube channel www.youtube.com/ubagroupvideos launched on May 12, 2009, the bank said, it has been able to communicate its TV Commercials and other related videos to the global internet community.
