Breaking News! More Facts Emerge on Stamp
Duty Levies!
According to Channels Television,
1. Senator Buruji Kashamu is the Chairman, Chief
Executive of KASMAL International Services, the
company that President Jonathan approved as
Collecting Agents for Stamp Duty on behalf of
NIPOST!

2. Apparently, all the banks refused to collect
Stamp Duty on electronic transfers as the Stamp
Duty Act stipulated only receipts with stamps
affixed. So Sen Buruji Kashamu sues all the banks
to remit Stamp Duty Collection to NIPOST
through his company.

3. The Lower Court found in favour of KASMAL
International Services and ordered all Commercial
Banks to collect Stamp Duty of N50 on all
deposits of N1000 and above, including electronic
transfers and remit such funds to NIPOST via
Senator Kashamu's Company

4. The 22 banks appealed the judgement and
hearing is now fixed for April 7 by the Court of
Appeal.

5. Curiously, it is this same Court judgement that
CBN claims to be effecting! So why was CBN
suddenly insistent on enforcing Stamp Duty
Charges when it is already in appeal? Shouldn't
all parties maintain status quo? My legal friends,
please explain this to me.

6. Bottomline is, it appears PDP racketeering is
still very alive in this our "Change" government or
how do you explain the sudden decision of CBN
Governor Emefiele to enforce a judgement that is
already in appeal?

7. So Nigerian Consumers are all working for
Senator Kashamu? He gets to make a
commission on every N50 Stamp Duty we are
charged? For doing absolutely NOTHING?
What does NIPOST need a "Collecting Agent" for
when the banks already collect the disputed
stamp duty on its behalf?
