Aburi Accord And Ooni Of Ife's One Nigeria Declaration. by Adadio: 7:37am On Mar 20, 2016 |
The New Ooni of Ife recently declared at the Palace of the Sultan of Sokoto, that One Nigeria is not negotiable, that Nigeria has come to stay. The question is,why the fixation on 'One Nigeria'.This One Nigeria mantra has been going on for many decades and you have to declare it to be politically correct.Just before the breakout of hostilities between the Biafrans,Nigerian leaders including Gowon,Ojukwu,Adeyinka Adebayo,Usman Katsina,N.U.Akpan,Jam Salem,Omo Bare,Prince Akenzua and a host of others were at Aburi in Ghana at the invitation if General Ankrah, the Ghanaian Leader. The talk was in how Nigeria could be made to work, especially in the area of proposing ideas to lesson tension in the polity. The Aburi meeting ended on a good note but what happened after is now history.GOWON became the acronym for Go On With One Nigeria, during the war.It could also have meant Go Out for outright war for Nigeria.Radio stations were agog with 'To keep Nigeria One is a task that must be accomplished'So after all these years, why do we still keep singing 'One Nigeria'or as some of our compatriots would say 'One Nijeria'.What is really missing that would make the likeable Ooni Ogunwusi to make this recent declaration? Can Africans especially Nigerians put on their thinking caps and come up with a workable arrangement for its people's for their greatest good instead of living a lie.Nigeria could be better.Thank you. |
