Holy thursday marks the beginning of a period in the church calender known as sacred tridium, meaning the three most sacred days in the days of the year. It beginson holy thurday and ends on holy saturday. It is the period between the arrest, trial, and crucifixion of Jesus.

Today marks the holy thurday for the year 2016. It was on thursday night that Jesus was arrested by the Jews, and handed over to the authorities to be judged.

It was also on holy thursday that Jesus instituted the order of priesthood. This happpened during the passover feast otherwise known as last supper Jesus had with His apostles where He demonstrated love, humility, compassion, and exemplary leadership by washinf the feet of His apostles and commanding them to do the same to others.

Jesus instituted the sacrament of holy eucharist on holy thursday. In a common language, it is the day Jesus instituted the reception of communion by sharing bread and wine with His apostles and commanding them to do same in remembrance of Him.

In Roman Catholic church, the evening mass today is celebrated for the priests. It is known as mass of the last supper.

It was also on holy thursday that Judas Iscariot ( the apostle who betrayed Jesus) brought the Jews to Jesus and handed Him (Jesus) over to them with a kiss at the mount of Gethsemane.

Christians all over the world today remember this day as it marks the beginning of the agony and passion of Christ Jesus in the road to the restoration of the glory of mankind.
