I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY HP PAVILION DV9500

Last night I was on my computer working on a graphic design project for school (was running Photoshop) when the screen went a weird purple color and then completely blank after a minute or so. The computer was still running, however, and pretty hard at that, so I shut it off. Since then, whenever I turn it on the screen shows up split into two, equal, horizontal parts.

If I do not touch anything, it will continue to show the Microsoft loading screen, but then shows a blue screen for a few seconds then reboots.

I have reformat and load the OS with Vista and Win 7, But still the same problem

hello sir
since you said you are loading windows xp service pack 2
i take it that your hard drive is a SATA
that is why the hard disk is not being recognised, windows xp does not have support for sata yet

you have to check your BIOS config. if it has support for IDE
otherwise

you will need to slipstream the sata drivers into your windows installation disk
in other words you need to recreate a windows xp installation disk but this time with sata drivers inserted
in it

this can be done using a software called nlite
let me try and find a link for you to help you with the Job.

here is a link with pictures

thanks

hello sir
for your complaints i need to know if the windows vista came pre-installed
that is on the hard disk itself,

if it did then you will be able to restore it to windows vista by hitting whatever key your system requires when it starts booting
before it loads windows
at the screen where ur manufacturers logo comes up
or simply enter the bios and see what key to press to go to system recovery.

be warned restoring your system to factory state will completely erase any data you have on the hard disk.

as for the windows 7 simply disable automatic update and set it to manual update
u can still recieve updates but you will have to manually check each one to know what to install
the update that renders windows invalid is usually described when you highlight it so just see what each update does
before installing it. or disable windows update totally,

search for your laptop make and model on the dell support website

This will be possible if the tech guy did an upgrade from vista to win 7 but if he did a clean install, I'm sure he would have had to override the previous OS.

obviously you did not understand me,
systems with OEM pre installed OS always have a recovery partition for recovering systems back to factory state. since they no longer give installation disks
the only way he can not restore his system back to vista is if the entire hard drive was formated during the installation of the new OS. not because of anything else,

thanks

boot up your laptop, when it loads to windows, click on my computer and check how many hard disk partition you have
if there is still a partition usually assigned drive letter D: with labels such as Recovery, or the OEM name etc
then your system can still be restored back to factory state with the OEM pre installed OS
but if he formatted your entire hard disk during the installation then
what is gone is gone,
you will have to re install windows vista from an installation disk
otherwise look for someone with windows ultimate to install for you.
but as Zimdrill advised windows 7 is better
so to check if windows is genuine right click on my computer and select properties
and tell us what you see at the bottom of the screen opposite your product ID and key,

if windows is not genuine simply activate it to make it genuine,  although it is illegal thats seems to be the way out
except you want to buy a brand new license key from microsoft.
for futher help please state the make and model of your dell laptop
and

tell me if you want a copy of the activator.
thanks,

note: OEM means original equipment manufacturer

hello sir
above your product ID does it say windows is activated
if it does then there is a fair chance that windows is genuine
however that is for microsoft to find out.
as long as you do not download their activator checker update or tinker with your registry settings
your PC will not have issues with fake software.

as for the hard disk issue that means the tech guy probably formatted the entire hard disk.

for issues with windows please download avg pc tune up from the link below
http://www.avg.com/us-en/avg-pctuneup

and run the software it gives you a onetime trial repair
that should check for errors and possibly fix them

please give feed back and let me know your progress
thanks.

Oh my dayyyyyzzzz. . . . can you please leave your laptop alone. What factory settings are you trying to restore to? IIRC,the guy wiped your D:drive that holds your recovery OS.The guy installed windows 7 ultimate for you, arguably the best windows OS,you still want to revert to vista which consumes RAM like no man's business and MS's worst OS to date.

The thing is, the Windows 7 that guy installed for you is as good as the one you buy directly from Microsoft.
