Okay gurus, here we go.

My PC (hp Elitebook 8440p) does Not boot. After the boot animation, It says:

'Your PC needs to be repaired.
Boot configuration data is missing or corrupted. '

Then It displays some error code below it . It also says I should fix this problem by inserting my installation disc or media(ie the W8 disc since I am using W8).

So on trying to fix this problem, I inserted my windows 8.0 installation disc and restarted the PC. On restart, I entered boot options and on boot options I could find only

1. Notebook hard drive
2. Notebook ethernet

No USB or CD rom.
So I set out to go to BIOS settings to includewindows installationdisc or even USB among the boot optiins but lo and behold, it was asking for bios password and I didn't remember puttinga password for my bios and the first person to use the PC before me is dead :-(
So I don'treally knowwhat to do right now. I am trapped and i'mstanding on a time bomb now because my final year project work i'd inside the harddrive of the PC and I my defence is next week friday.

Please gurus help me. I would liketo have my system back on and in operation.

First concerning your project you can remove the hard disk and use it as external so that you can copy your file.

Try resetting the BIOS password...Unfortunately for your type of laptop it requires you do a lot of careful work.
Your CMOS battery is located underneath your keyboard. So you will need to remove your keyboard to access the battery
Once its done, then you disconnect the cable and leave it disconnected for about a minute. Then connect it back.

Once you are back in the BIOS, you can now check and see if the CD drive and USB drives are excluded from startup boot. If so, then you add them to the included startup boot drives.

Thanks man. I know how to dismantle the PC well alright. How do I locate the CMOS battery? Is it that blue round stuff at the upperright corner after removing the keyboard? Please describe it for me, because I have reset BIOS password in a desktop by removing CMOS battery before, but desktops architecture and laptop architecture is quite different.
And what about the jumper pin method?

And in both methods, what should I look out for?

If you have to keep restarting to get the sound to work...then it may sound like you may have a corrupt user profile. Have you tried creating a new user profile and logging into it and see if the same issue occurs. Please let us know.

Exactly it is the blue round stuff at the top right corner. There is a cable attached to it that is connected...the cable needs to be disconnected and re-connected. You don't necessary have to remove the battery itself.

I have performed the operation as you suggested. But when I turned on my laptop, it said cmos checksum is invalid that bios will have,to be reset that I should check if bios is reset.
Then it continues booting to a black console where it shows , press f1 to restart system and f10 to go to bios settings.
So I pressed f10 but the bios was still locked with a password. Please what do I do now?

Hey my friend, I am sorry this did not work. I took it upon myself to do some research regarding your issue for Elitebook 8440P. It seems you are not alone in this issue. Others have tried to do same fix that works in all computers but they are not able to do that with the Elitebook 8440P. I came across a user who actually had to contact HP and was sent a file which he formatted to a HDD to reset the password. I am not sure how else you can fix your problem.

If you have warranty on the laptop...which you may not have because most laptops comes with a 1 year manufacturers warranty, then yes you should call them on the phone. You know...it doesn't hurt trying the battery thing again and leaving it out for a while before reconnecting back.
