babasolution: Get this bro: Internal unity and cohesion is needed among Nigerians FIRST, before it can effectively produce a formidable front backed up with effective policies to stare down foreign exploiters. Everything done by foreign "investors" to undermine the economy can never be achieved if there is no Nigerian factor complicit in it, be it individuals or organizations. Everyone of us does things because of personal gains and interests. There is no feeling of patriotism. No one can be forced to become patriotic. We are a loooong way from the destination we seek for this country, and I'm fairly certain this present generation can never be the catalyst to achieving it. |

It is economic sabotage for our foreign trained 'experts' to be calling for devaluation of the Naira. This is where I support PMB steadfastness. None of this 'experts' has proved to us the benefit to ordinary Nigerians of devaluing the Naira. IMF President was here recently on the same issue and their is so far NO country that became rich with IMF money, look at EU country Greece. |

Nigeria Nigeria Nigeria. Africa Africa Africa Always blaming the west and the white man since ages in time without looking inwards to look at the inbred problem themselves . That's the sad part, you blame the west and at the same time 24/7 in their faces for a bail out, for loans, for technical expertise and knowledge for their education and to make things worse , you capital flight your own money to put in their economy.#Follisness raised to the highest bar. Back to the economics of those shouting we need to export we need to grow Nigeria. Tell me if the parameters for export are set and ready, No power , No Water, No Basic Infrastructure and we want to be what China is now overnight. We need to look inwards and check ourselves before we start to blame the white man If there is no gap in the wall or a crevice will the Lizard be able to crawl in. The same people shouting grow Nigeria wake up in the morning, jump into a German made car, wear Italian made shoe, Swiss made Rolex, drink exported champagne at will, west manufactured gadgets and appliances and now throw the silky gauntlet of grow Nigeria to the man on the street to run with . What a crying shame a country that has crude and it's become a curse more than a blessing. Was the West involved when we ran our refineries down over the years Abi you see Oyinbo for The infrastructure run down on purpose over the years . 2nd base please. 2 Likes |

Don't the west do business in Arabian countries, do they try the shit they do here down there? they don't , they can't because their government don't tolerate bullshit, Buh here they can get away with anything and still remain relevant. 1 Like |

Most of these foreign companies have been in Africa for ages and It takes only a strong man to do business in Nigeria, i worked for a foreign company ones, Immigration was on their case and on their payroll, even if their papers were correct, the taxes they paid, unending, we cannot continue trading blames, if you want Nigeria to become a hub for foreign investment, make the country lucrative, the rotting power sector, the kidnappings, the corrupt security and government officials, who has time for that in this day and age, that is why they prefer to go to Ghana and Ivory coast to invest, we cannot always be blaming others for our failings that is why we are left behind, just the other day the Governor of Ondo state was threatening to close down base station for one levy or the other, then the service providers told him they were tired of multiple taxation and called his bluff, "shut down the Base stations and you only have yourself to blame if you have no network in your state", I call this lazy governance, i am sure Ondo state had raw materials that can be exported, forget production because Nigeria cannot become a productive society with 2,000 megawatts of electricity it could have been done in the cave age not in the era of instant communication. with the number of aides the governor , he still finds it impossible to seek ways of collecting more revenue. 1 Like |

AnakinSkywalker: No. I don't live in PH. It is the situation all over the country. In Lagos, road users are bullied off the road by armed military personnel so that foreign nationals in luxury, air conditioned cars can get to work in the morning and get home at night. The same reason the state residents were plying the routes in the first place. It is the same in Uyo, Calabar, Abuja, Kano, and wherever you go in Nigeria. |

nobaga: they r bad, they r these n that, they dont want africans to grow, they r anti africans but everyweek buhari travels out to go meet them n beg them to come invest in nigeria. nigerians don t like thinking out of the box, we r relying on economists who studied in havard to use their knowledge to ameliorate a community n local university economic problems. havard will only solve western economic problem, it can never solve locally induced problems. the case of fuel, everybody now knws buhari, kachikwu n the apc atlarge r relying on dangote's refinery. what if dangote die today before the refinery comes to light God forbid what will happen to his partners? will they pull out or continue with the project? will d govt work with dem on the same terms n conditions they signed with dangote? once his happen, dangote now will be running and operating on a monopolistic system, the govt wont n can never determine the price of fuel for him. check out what is happening in the cement industry, where dangote holdsway, he controls the price n market. u cant intimidate him to reduce the price. cant the present govt swallow thier pride, remove some monies from the reserve, award contract for a new refinery atleadt to check n conteol market forces n monopoly by dangote? obj when he came in he had 3billion dols in reserve, he didnt complained, nigeria was not sold out to foreigners to pile up the reserve. nigeria n nigerians survived. removing 10billion dolls today n in 4 yrs time u dont only solve one distinct problem but u will save monies at the long run from importing fuel n other products from crude oil we do import daily. my steewpid opinion. |

@OP first of all most Nigerians are potential traitors, our top men can sell us out to outsiders for a pot of porridge. Secondly we must put an end to this Hausa/Fulani hegemony and decentralize our government else we will wait till eternity for the core north to catch up as long as they dominate the country. With decentralization there is a better chance of reducing shortchanges from our colonial masters and other foreigners |

It's such a balanced way of respect , trade and relations reciprocal across board at all levels of the strata Why because they have kept their house in order, neat and tidy. Once Nigeria pays more in devalued naira, goods, services, transportation fare and serd vice loan fees will increase accordingly. Housing and car purchases increase will follow and workers will demand more to meet daily expenses. It is illogical to think that paying more in devalued naira will automatically solve the problem of a market without abundant local products to export. Nigeria has not devalued its currency yet between 2015 - 2016 prices of everything has doubled, housing has increased so also has spare parts. i would hoped that emphasis would have made more on exportation as a means of reviving our country and not from production because PHCN heas killed that dream.Sorting PHCN out is a nightmare of epic porportion, its a virus that cannot be eradicated, ,a nine headed hydra monster, an evil we have to maneuver across. we really have to live with the realities on ground |

I have been telling all who cared to listen that the western world is coming for PMB soon, reason PMB started looking eastwards towards the arab world. PMB is bad news to the west cos of the reduction in illegal monies that has been moving into the west from our shores. We need to wise up Nigerians! 1 Like |

We should stop blaming the white man for our misfortune. This is a dog eat dog world. We should not expect fair play from anyone. This is where leadership comes in which is to fight for her people first even if it is at the expense of others. If China did not fight its way to the top on her own, they will still be at bottom today. Black Africans should be serious and take thier destiny in their own hands otherwise we will continue to be exploited because we don't have a say. It is only the Afican continent that does not have any signature product that has solved any world problem. We didn't build airplane, we didn't buid ship, we didn't build car even the high end equipment people like dangote will be using in his Nigerian companies is still a product thought and built by the white man. We will always be exploited because we are empty and exposed. For example, America + Europe put together cannot exploit Japan despite Japan being a small nation. This is because Japan can match anybody Technology for Technology and can stand on its own. The beggar has no choice. If we must overcome, then we as a people need to shun greed and build this nation. If we can get to a point where we can be independent, we may even become the ones to start exploiting them. 2 Likes |

sheunsheun: reading through it and many other geeky write-ups like it, can inform you, educate you and enlighten you; and by consequence, form your character, fill you with ideas, and who knows? It could make you an inventor/innovator like Mark Zukerberg and Dangote. At that time, just like Dangote, you won't need to "fill your generator"; instead, you would build your own power plant and send the left over to the national grid as cooperate responsibility. People would look to you and call you a good man! |

Nice article!. Real good one!. Two days ago, I answered someone who wanted to know what Ms. Largarde's visit to Nigeria would profit us. And my response was along this line, explaining the hidden games between western powers, IMF, world bank, and Africa. But, one foolish Nairalander after reading it called it a conspiracy theory and tales by moonlight. I just shook my head in pity for him. Such a novice!. |

ideylaff: Thank you. in fact, we should grateful to the west. We are the ones who will go thier schools, hospitals. They don't come to our schools n hospitals. We are they ones who will go and buy houses over there. Have you seen the whites coming to Abuja to buy houses? We are they ones who will go and put stolen money in thier banks but they don't have accounts in our banks. We are they ones who pay 18k as minimum wage when pure water is 20 naira, abi na white man fault? People like me will not have seen how possible it is to stay 1 year without the light blinking if it were not for the white man country. Did they tell us not to replicate it n Nigera? Nigeria, it is a dog eat dog world, the white man leaders have provided the best of life for thier people so provide for us your people with every means possible and stop blaming the white man 1 Like 1 Share |

ideylaff: their education and to make things worse. That up there you just summarized the real problem with Africa. Until we do away with western education and restructure education to start learning on our terms, we wouldn't even be able to understand our own problems, and therefore, can't solve them. What we call education in Africa is not true education, but a colonial brainwashing system installed to make Africans perpetually dependent on the west for knowledge. Indeed, the founding father of African independence, Lord Kwame Nkrumah said "western education is a scam". If we want to be like China we have to start from the schools. It is people that build infrastructures, not infrastructures that build people. NB: The article wasn't actually totally blaming white people, but just frustrated by our elites or what he called proteges partnering with white people to fleece us. When I write people think I'm blaming white people, when in fact I don't exonerate Africans at all from responsibility for our failures. |

JSayin: That's just one of the many. I like facts so I'll use NigerDock Plc as a case study. This company through the ingenuity of Nigerians (my humble self included) have shown that we're capable of achieving any complex engineering structure starting from Topsides to Buoys and even carry out ship repairs. The Economics: 1. Chicken, fish, and 70% perishable goods used to prepare meals for the over 3000 staffs are imported. I now ask how they bypass customs 2. The contracts are awarded in USD, Nigerian staff paid in naira while like we know the glorified technicians(expatriates) are paid in USD plus their expense paid holiday in their choice country outside Nigeria (Obudu ranch de o) 3.PPEss and fabrication consumables are all offshore procured. 4. They tax workers like mad and I didn't receive my taxclearancee till I left them. In all, aside the expats, we've indigenous managers whim I believe play the script of the owners and directors mostly foreign nationals. So where do we start? Customs, NMA, NAFDAC abi na who? We are our problems and till we realize that and get to work we might just wake up a day in another cocoa plantation in Brazil. 1 Like 2 Shares |
