Once you buy a full tank, reset your trip meter. Get a chart and input results. After 3 months, compare results, considering driving patterns, interstate/city etc etc etc. Check total consumption against recommended.

I think this has more to do with the shape of the tank, if all tanks has a regular rectangular shape then expect a uniform drop on your fuel gauge if your driving is consistent.

But realistically you have to make do with available space and shape the tank to fit, so your tank may has a wide top and a narrow lower end due to maybe a drive shaft or something.

....posted this questions was because I got the full tank at VGC Lekki Ajah axis and drove all the way to Alagbado (Lagos-Ogun)and Back to Ajah....d guage didn't drop ooo.
I use a V6, 3.3 engine size space bus and one of the Catalyst is not present.

I fill long journey driving doesn't drain your fuel, but interstate movement does.

Thank u all...

If there's a floater in the tank, it will be because it will take for some significant fuel usage before the floater is able to drop low enough to move the guage.

You will notice that once the needle moves, it makes a significant movement.

it is true that longer journeys use less fuel per kilometer compared to shorter journeys.
with regards to to the fuel gauge not moving after filling up driving for a while, this is what happens;
(a). your fuel level gauge (sender) is a float usually attached the fuel pump assembly which rises and falls as your fuel level rises and falls.
there is a lot of space above that float which fuel goes into right up to fuel receptacle.
the float will not move until all the fuel stored here is used up (on some cars, this is up to ten liters).
the float will only start moving after all that fuel on top of it is used up.
and as soon as it starts moving, it really moves. this gives car owners the wrong impression that their cars use more fuel after the fuel gauge has left the full mark.

I think it's the fuel tank design that makes it so
