RIP to the dead. This scenario has become a norm in the assets of many IOC's in Nigeria(NNPC is even worse). The situation has degraded to this level primarily due to complacency of regulatory agencies who ought to ensure industry best practices are maintained- health, safety and environmental. Some of these agencies become toothless bulldogs after mortgaging themselves by way of soliciting for favours from these IOC's.
Our brothers in the oil bearing communities are even not aware of the long term effects of hydrocarbon on human health. A lot is being said about the environment already in many publications. The light ends of this 'black gold' is highly carcinogenic (causes cancer). This can even pass onto unborn generations. These IOC's will go one day but the effects of these senseless destruction/vandalization will linger into generations.

It's high time Agip moved offshore just like Mobil, Total, and Chevron. Leave the onshore assets for the indigenous operators. Shell was very wise to divest from their onshore assets. All the NDeltans thug want is to real where they did not sow. Despite the huge amount of money invested on sustainable development of their region, they'd rather want money to be shared at the expense of development of their region.
