Very solid points Basco. You are right. I too dont mind seeing a SADIQ right now because I honestly believe and can tell you from an analytical angle that he has the right skillset that will add something different to the Super Eagles attack enhancing our quality depth of options. But as you know, we are loaded there and it's still okay to consider the others doing well in top flight leagues before him. Rohr already has the lad marked down for the near future.

And please... I can say this anywhere. La liga Smartbank trumps the EFL Championship in everything except Money.
The technical quality and Competitiveness of La Liga Smartbank is higher than the Championship. I can say this confidently because I have watched more than enough of both leagues.

"Eye test" over "dem say" hype for me.

BascoVanVeli:

If not for the fact that we are stacked at that position my stance would be that Sadiq Umar should be called into the team ASAP. If he was a FB doing all this nobody would be talking about division 2, just like nobody brought that up when Eze was tearing up the championship. Even as we speak people are waiting for Ovie to make the team list, is that not division 2? Then the insinuation that the championship is by far superior to la Liga 2 is just outrageous.

Onuachu is doing better than what Osimhen did in Belgium league,Iheanacho has scored more goals than him in a better league,Simy Nwankwo has scored more goals than Osimhen in the same league, you think it is going to be easy for Rohr to neglect their performance and hand Osimhen an automatic shirt. Oh! I have forgotten,it is Rohr
No sane coach will drop is number 1 striker who haven't had any bad game for you. Why will he drop Osimhen? If he wants to follow your logic do you think the team will achieve any form of stability?

No real coach go dey change players based on temporary form, you need to have a permanent starting 11 that's how you build a team

Maybe because Drogba played for Chelsea and won them some trophies that’s what makes him ahead

Drogba is a finisher but I still wonder why dude cannot 1 goal in every 2 games

Yakubu got 95 epl goals and Drogba got 105

You should know the teams yak played for yo get these goals grin
There's a reason why Yak never played for a top team, do you think the scouts didn't see him?

Super eagles number 9 shirt doesn't belong to Anyone. Whoever is in the best Form for his club Must Start. Although I don't rate ("Farmers league"wink highly but You can't just ignore everyone else scoring and say it's for 1 person. For example, on current form, I will play "iheanacho"in the next game because he is our most inform striker considering the league/minutes/goal ratio.
9 (osimehn) 8 (iheanacho)
But we must stop this nonsense that a player is guaranteed any position irrespective of their club performance.
Na why you no fit ever be coach be that

Maybe he is unlucky

Yak is better than many strikers who played for a top team

As far as this season is concerned, Simi has been a better finisher than Osimhen, Should we compare Osimhen's one touch shots to Simy's own this season? If you are interested in painting serie A with goals, then your one touch finishing must be good.
Simi - 6 open play Serie A goals In 26 matches (with an average game play of 72mins). Osimhen 3 in 11 plus he isn't exactly in peak form (average of 66min of football) but go on Simi is more prolific

I've had my eyes on Sadiq since his olympic days. Glad he's maturing as a player.

talking about the national team as much as I'm happy about the growing strength in depth in the strikers department the truth is we really need one or two of them to step up. In the golden era of the 90s as much as Yekini was the main man guys like Siasia and Amokachi stepped up to the plate. Hopefully a rejuvenated KC and prolific Onuachu will take their form into the eagles especially Paul.

Doc you have come again you want to start another round of argument with our resident Southgate grin

Nice analysis and I can’t wait for that sadiq move to happen because that will show his hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed

And I also don’t think simmy will be called he thou I want him to be on the list

I still think these are our 3 strikers

Osimhen
Onauchu
Iheanacho
As it should be
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by jihday(m): 12:52pm On Mar 08, 2021
TheSuperNerd:
In the last Super Eagles list for our Competitive fixtures vs Sierra Leone, we had Osimhen, Iheanacho and Dennis Bonaventure named as the CFs. Onuachu later joined them as a late call up replacement for Simon Moses who was named to the original list before Injury ruled him out.

That left us with Four CF options although Dennis can also play from the wings.

Also, In the last Super Eagles list pre-AfconQ double header with Sierra Leone, we had Iheanacho, Onuachu and Dessers as the Centre forward options for the Algeria and Tunisia friendlies.

Now, You are Gernot Rohr and you have to pick three strikers from among these lots for the March games. Who would make it to your list?

- Terem Moffi (Ligue 1)
- Simy Nwankwo (Serie A)
- Kelechi Iheanacho (EPL)
- Paul Onuachu (Belgian Jupiler Pro)
- Victor Osimhen (Serie A)

I hope you can see that dropping any of them will be tough based on recent forms and happenings.

For Osimhen, it's not even a question of form but the fact that he is Rohr's first choice CF/ST. And he scored yesterday on his return from the head trauma scare which will be great news for the coaching crew.

So you have the floor... Imagine being in the shoes of Rohr and make your choice. It will be respected. wink

Osimhen, Nacho, Onuachu
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by chrisooblog: 1:02pm On Mar 08, 2021
Simmy has done well for himself this season and has definitely pushed himself deservedly into the narrative of whether he should return to the SE. However saying he's more prolific than Osimhen is a bit premature considering Nwankwo has had a longer run of games free from injury.

I agree with you on the other strikers stepping up to the plate big time. The team needs that as Osimhen won't play every damn game. I can count on Iheanacho when in form. Onuachu also can provide strong Competition but we also gotta tweak things a bit to play to his strengths when he is involved. In the longer run, I know the likes of SADIQ and Moffi will be valuable additions who will provide keen Competition for Osimhen.

And my good man Chris. Debates are Inevitable with a guy who swims in the waters of English bias whenever a point goes against the school of thought that says "English football is Number 1".

I am a fan of English football myself and follow them even to the League 2 ranks. But I gotta tell ya, EFL Championship no reach La Liga 2. And I am a fan of Spanish, Dutch football and other football schools also. He can bring it on. grin

It seem you are God and you know what the future hold for us all, because i wonder how you confidently use this word ''may never'' .

Osimhen has five goals in ten appearance while ighalo has 16 in 35 appearance with this speed in two to three years i see osimhen beating ighalo record.

If you want to use the afcon as a criteria to judge osimhen he's already among the top scorers if am not mistaking with another two rounds of match's remaining.

There is a phrase given to people who count chicks before the eggs have hatched.

How far Osimhen will go or indeed how low is not established.

On the other hand lghalo is proven and tested.

You may consider my comments patronising but thats your problem.

Comprehension is not as common as I think.

There is a huge DISPARITY between "May Never" and "Never Will" That obvious disparity is completely lost on you.

Omo... If SADIQ Umar makes it, I would be so so glad but I'm not expecting him to make the list for now. Time will tell shaa. Looks like a few details in the list will be altered.
As for Moffi. That's a sure banker.

But ehmmm, how many strikers Rohr wan come invite for main list? Coz Osimhen and Iheanacho are definitely making it.

Meanwhile, Onuachu for Standby after banging in 25 league goals and "Clubless" + "almost 5-6 months inactive" Musa to make Main list? Omo, it better not happen. If not na Chriskels, Andrewbaba44 and Elyte89 I go hand Rohr matter over to. Haba! angry
