Sadiq Umar Extends Contract With Roma, Crotone & Verona Battling To Loan Him
Highly rated Roma Nigerian forward Sadiq Umar has signed a fresh three year deal with Serie A side Roma tying him to the club for the next four years, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
The 20 year old spent last season on loan to Bologna where he struggled to get game time due to injuries and fitness issues, no thanks to his involvement with the Nigerian team at the Rio 2016 Olympics as well.

Thats exactly the point I have been raising all this time. Forget about the Mikel was missing, Victor moses didnt play and stuff. That is more or less relying on individual brilliance as against relying on team work. The SA team arent that good and that is a fact! I see them play week in week out. I would say they got their chance and took it. They were prepared for a draw but got a win. Their plan was to not allow the Nigerian team to gel cos they were afraid that once that happened, we will run them riot. I watched the interview of Baxter. Baxter used to coach Kaizer Chiefs and was the best coach in SA. He went on to coach Supersports united and so we can fairly say he knows his players. But much more than all of these, he relied on the teamwork of his players and good strategy execution which paid off. Nigeria has never been known to play/ field teams with good cohesion and that is why we play scrappy wins. Talents? Yes we possess that more than any nation on the earth. Blending is where the problem is. We never blend! We need good communication between midfield and attack. I am not so worried about defence if we are always the one attacking in each game. In other words we dominate ball possession.

But one is forced to ask, of what benefit is ball possession that doesnt translate into goals and more goals? This is where we need to scout for creative midfielders that
Suit whatever pattern of play we so choose whenever necessary. We have Mikel only and by now, we should have at least 2 or 3 other replacements. Lets not forget that at some point in the future, Mikel the almighty complete footballer will retire someday.

I will mention 5 key positions in our team and 5 people that played the position and never failed to deliver. And that we should note that their absence left a huge vaccuum in our national team.

Eversince these guys left the scene, we have perpetually struggled to assemble a team of quality. We have never had their replacements all at once in the national team. Sacking of coaches and politics have also not helped our cause. All we do now is just parade big names in games and sorry to say, big names no longer win games. Good teams with excellent teamwork do! If you like , put Messi inside shooting stars, or Ronaldo in Enugu rangers! If they arent in a team that understand their vibes, they will look ordinary! And that explains why these 2 guys dont so much do the exploits they do in their clubs in the National teams.

Bottomline of what I am saying is we need our team to possess both quality and blend. Enough of being sentimental when it comes to certain players and then judgemental when it comes to others. "All for one and one for all" (3 musketeers). One band , one sound(Drumline)

Deportivo La Coruna Officially Unveil Ex Nigeria U-17 Goalkeeper Francis Uzoho

Former Nigeria U17 goalkeeper Francis Odinaka Uzoho was among the players unveiled by Spanish La-Liga side Deportivo La Coruna in a ceremony watched by Owngoalnigeria.com correspondent.
His unveiling means he is now officially a player of the first team, thanks to his sterling performances for the team during their pre season training, where he kept a clean sheet in the two games he played.
Tall, commanding and blessed with a fine grip, the 18 year old only joined the club last summer from Qatar based Aspire Academy, but his performances have now earned him a first team spot in just a year at the club.

Bursaspor Confirm Talks With Porto Over Super Eagles Midfielder Mikel
Turkish Super Lig outfit Bursaspor have confirmed talks with Portuguese side FC Porto over a loan deal for Nigerian midfielder Mikel Agu.


Porto are opened to the idea of letting the 23 year old leave on loan this season despite the midfielder signing fresh terms at the club few months ago after a fairly successful loan spell with Vitoria Setubal.
Agu is however still very active with Porto in pre season training, but President of Bursaspor Ali Ay confirmed they are in advanced talks with Porto regarding a loan move for him.
” We are discussing with two players namely David Accam and Mikel Agu. Talks are progressing well with their respective team. Aside them we are also going for a right back”, he said.

Nigeria: Eagles Won't Qualify for Russia 2018 World Cup - Prophet Aika


Benin City — As the Super Eagles prepares for the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Cameroon, a sport enthusiast and clergy, Prophet Tommy Aika has expressed fears that Nigeria may not qualify for the fiesta if his spiritual messages were not reckoned with.

He also said the appointment of a foreign coach, instead of a Nigerian, was not the best for the country as a foreigner, he said, would not lead Nigeria to lift the World Cup. He said that football administrators over the years have not helped the growth of football in Nigeria

The Primate and General Overseer of the Glory Church of Christ said he had been instrumental to the national team's chain of successes in the past, adding, "although I have never been appreciated for all my contributions to the Super Eagles lofty achievements, I am not deterred.

"The message that has been handed over to me for over 10 years now for onward transmission to the world is that the Super Eagles of Nigeria will be the first team in the continent of Africa to lift the World Cup

To achieve this feat, the team should not be led by a foreign coach. I will participate in the spiritual aspect of selecting three coaches and two financiers to be attached to the team.

"The process of the spiritual selection of the coaching crew will involve a girl not older than seven years picking the three coaches and the two financiers through a lucky dip.

"One of the coaches would be given the responsibility of coaching the attackers. The second coach would be saddled with the responsibility of training the midfielders and the third would be assigned to training the defenders and goalkeepers.

"As per the two financiers, one will be mandated to cater for the footballers, while the other would be in charge of the officials.

"All these will be done in the presence of the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and two other prominent personalities, Generals (Rtd) Theophilus Danjuma and Abdulsalam Abubakar.

"Of course, I and my team of prayer warriors would be doing the needful in the background," he concluded.

Leicester City Sign Striker Kelechi Iheanacho

Leicester City Football Club has completed the signing of striker Kelechi Iheanacho from Manchester City for an undisclosed fee

The 20-year-old Nigeria international has put pen-to-paper on a contract to 2022 and becomes the fourth exciting addition to Craig Shakespeare’s squad ahead of the new campaign.

Iheanacho will wear the squad no.8 and joins fellow Nigeria internationals Wilfred Ndidi and Ahmed Musa among the Leicester City ranks, as the team continue their pre-season preparations with a friendly at home to German side Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday night.

The striker, who is regarded as one of the most promising young talents in the Premier League, could make his first appearance in City colours at King Power Stadium in City’s final pre-season fixture.

Speaking to LCFC TV, Iheanacho said: “It feels good and I’m happy to be part of this team. I know the ambition of the team and speaking with the manager, he let me know what I need to do – to help the team achieve what they want. I was convinced and I’m happy to be here.
“I was happy speaking with the manager, knowing what the team wants. It gives me more confidence that I will fit in this team and hopefully I’ll achieve a lot.”

Leicester City manager Shakespeare added: “It’s a great signing for us. Kelechi is an enormously talented player that has shown a huge amount of promise at every level in which he’s played.

He soon began scoring goals for Manchester City’s Academy, trained with Columbus Crew in the United States, scored in the 2015 FA Youth Cup Final and netted the only goal against Porto as his team lifted the 2015 Premier League International Cup.

Another series of eye-catching displays in his team’s 2015/16 pre-season saw the young striker called on for first team duties for the first time in August 2015 – making his professional debut as an 18-year-old in a 2-0 home win over Watford.

His first goal came against Crystal Palace a few weeks later while he underlined his promise with a stunning FA Cup hat-trick against Aston Villa in January 2016. He was used mainly as a substitute in his first season of professional football, but despite making 11 starts, he still managed to end the campaign with 14 goals in all competitions.

Iheanacho continued to build on his impressive reputation in front of goal last term as he scored his 10th Premier League goal before the age of 20, found the back of the net in the UEFA Champions League and only narrowly missed out to Bayern Munich’s Renato Sanches for the FIFA Golden Boy award.

At senior international level, Iheanacho made his Nigeria debut in 2015 and despite his young age, has firmly established himself as a key man for his country. In just 10 appearances, he has scored six times – most recently in a friendly victory over Togo in June.

In total, Iheanacho has scored 12 times in the Premier League during 46 appearances (12 starts) while he has 21 goals in 64 games (20 starts) in all competitions for Manchester City.
