He plays as a second striker (behind or ahead of another Striker). When he was a main stay in the Germany set up, Low used him as a wing forward/striker on the right and Podolski as a wing forward/striker on the left. Just like Jose used Eto at Inter.
Sadio Mane was a striker at RED BUll Salzburg, and at Southampton but Klopp decided to use him from the wings. That does not change the fact that Mane is a striker.
