I don't see it as World Class defending but being dominated.
Please remind me, how many goals did Argentina score today? undecided

Defending is tactics itself... Argentina had all the advantage today, it was up to the boys to counter it, and it looks like they did it well

We were totally outplayed. Defending is hoping the opposition side not convert. We were totally dominated.

When it comes to football seeing Argentina players and fans cry is always lovely! When that plain is inflicted by Nigeria, that's ecstasy!!

This team is made for counter attacking football. If they try a different approach it may not be as successful.

That was exactly World class defending

90% off teams would have leaked a goal from all that pressure

Luck and great defense played a key role

That is luck and throwing men behind the box. Another day, we might not be that LUCKY. Then get ripped to shreds.

Bameyi no get 2nd and it's annoying. They used his side to attack alot today. Surprisingly, Agbalaka was like he was on 40% less battery level today.
There is a backup bro... better player sef

Let's not get excited. We were awful and totally schooled by Argentina.

By the way, Caboni and Romero look promising Top stars but Gauto, that boy is 100 carat diamond.
Result is what matters... We get schooled? fine...who advanced?

I wish Diego Maradona RIP was there, to see us beating his country in their backyard so he feels the pain I felt when he gave us the middle finger in Russia 2018

Is the defense not part of the game again? Which side had the better defence? Nigeria. So it's fallacy to sah that Argentina totally dominated the game.

But who cares anyway? We won... Our u-17 boys were dominating opponents at the AFCON but struggled to win

That is the problem. How do we raise World stars if we build players incapable of playing offensive football. Watch Romero and Gauto play. Watch Redondo's tidy passes in the midfield.

It won't really matter much, seeing as he would have celebrated them winning the world cup..

Nope. Longevity is really what matters. We don't progress in the long run if we can't play the game.

Who was that guy on here dragging that long ball argument with nerdie? I totally support his angle on Bameyi. Totally useless budeying of the ball. I saw only 6 accurate passes and they were to a shirt in tight angle to easily get dispossessed. His ball playing is zero. Positioning too. Guy forgot he's a defender at some point by entering midfield.

A team that gathered 6point from a group of death involving Brazil, italy against a host nation that played against guatemala, Uzbekistan,New zealand…Nigeria is not good but trust me argentina were also no that a clinical team…Africans should no that to get far in a world cup tournament is to play highline defense and counter attack…there is no way we can compete with these elite football countries with possession football
Naturally, our football in Nigeria is based on athleticism and physicality. We are naturally athletic. That's our football identity. we just need sound coaches to refine this strength. All this tikitaka no dey work for our side. The second goal clearly said it all. That run and stubbornness from Eletu to win that ball eh..

Since when did it become the job of the national team to build up players? Some of these guys might still end up in teams that play offensive football

Being poor is not an excise for being terrible with the ball as a team.

I don't like how you guys are downplaying this to luck abeg. We frustrated their game throughout 1st half and switched up for 1st goal which is more of grind than flair or style. For Redondo to get yellow proves our game plan was working. But our defenders slept sometimes. Argies saw 90% of their best chances after our 2goals.
Saying we're lucky doesn't mean we wrote off the lads' performance na. Ok, you yourself agree that our defence slept off sometime, why didn't Argentina score despite how much they tried? FFS, their wingers were sliding past Agbalaka and Bameyi anyhow.

A team cannot have a tactic of let's hope they don't score. Lol

The game plan today was clearly to stop the Argentine players playing triangles at the edge of the box so they can resort to crosses and shots from long range! As they attacked, our defensive positioning was to show them there was an easier route to progress the ball through the flanks, but doing that meant they had to cross the ball (which is exactly what we wanted) or recycle play by passing back to the halfway line.
They did not win a single free kick on the edge of our box and that's what they thrive on when playing against physical teams like us.

Whilst executing that tactic we also had excellent holdup play by both players who played as no.9 following delivery from the keeper. This helped the team move up the pitch easier and with less risk than always trying to pass from the back. The personnel in this team is perfectly suited to counter attacking football and I think that explains why they were a bit rubbish against Dominican Republic.

What is the u20 for?

It is for getting the most promising players and showcasing them for the future.

If we are selecting players incapable of playing brilliantly, we are wasting the opportunity.

You do have a point. But for thus game, we did all the right things. We literally allowed them have the ball. We didn't really chase them. They had it and couldn't use it till we began to score. If they were in our group, they wont be here tonight, and nobody go really wan rem who sabi.

Thank heavens that Sevilla vs roma match is a good example. If we played and dominated them without results, I'm sure you won't call it luck or something.
