I think CHAN Eagles deserve some Credits for topping the Group without losing a Match. We are expecting too much from them. Some of us even expected them to fail.

They did their best so far, they didn't lose any Match, conceded just a Goal and scored 4 Goals in the Process; yet some us of see no Reason why we should applaud them?!

If we can't support the home-made Team, then how do we expect the League to grow?! The Lads are doing their Best. Let's support them, let's believe in them, so that we can honorably celebrate with them - if they eventually win the Tournament!

Nigerians criticisms are mostly destructive. If you're doing something to pleased Nigerians, Baba.. you will fail woefully cos you will never pleased them.

If you they played 23 shots without scoring nd eventually drew d match.. (Nigerians react..) which kind mumu strikers r dis that can't score a single.. is it not beta to play one shot an score...

Next match; The manage one shot on target resulting to a goal.. Dis team is too poor, they can't even mk accurate passes. They were just lucky jare.

Next match; They dominated d match and won with 3goals.. The team they played is d poorest in dat group.

Lastly, they played well, made accurate passes, dominated d match and eventually lost.. Shey na possessions nd accurate passes we wan chop, Shey e no better mk we just win, Shebi naso Chelsea take beat Barca win Ucl.. Abeg who accurate passes nd possession help?grin

Interesting point there. In a recent interview with John Terry, he was asked how he felt now about Lukaku, De Bruyne and Salah being sold by Chelsea. His response was along the lines of "at the time those players did not improve the team". The important phrase there being 'at the time'

An easy cop out but the fact is that they were good and not given the right atmosphere to excel. If they had no ability or quality to improve the team, would the management of Chelsea sign them?

The fact is very simple. A player can be good and left on the bench.

Apart from Faleye, none of the others have a super eagles future. Old and not good enough. Faleye's age means he can improve with the right training.

We saw Osas during WAFU. Whenever there was a player who could run at him directly. He was skinned alive. So far, he has not faced any lively winger.

U can't dispute Osas' quality on the ball.

Please check the assist he made again with the cross!!did you notice something about his movement as a RB, couldn't read the play. The winger had the ball and it was kinda 2 beat 1 and yet the winger still had to pass the ball backwards to Osas b4 speeding past one player and making the cross..

My broda local based players are good but they lack awareness or the brains to know how to solve anything on the field.. A lot of this plays are well constructed by European players..they think 2 steps ahead b4 passing the ball knowing where the ball would finally go to..

A classic example was Iheanacho at man city, debruyne had the ball and nacho was coming to him instead of attacking the danger area..debruyne had to tell him to run there and instead squared the ball to raheem who squared it to nacho to finally score..you can see debruyne was already 3 plays ahead and nacho had no clue where to attack!! That's the classic case of our home base players who are not taught well or can't even read a game play well..

This is one of the reasons African players struggle a lot when they go to Europe..the game is more than running around, just look at the way Xavi analysed the game in the post made by someone on this thread, it just made me appreciate their contribution more to this beutiful game..

Amuneke wins again in Sudan

Erstwhile Golden Eaglets coach Emmanuel Amuneke today led Sudanese Premier League side Al Khartoum Watani to a 2-0 win over Karjoc Sporting Club (KSC).

Amuneke described the victory as a step in the right direction ahead of the upcoming Sudanese Premier League.
It was another friendly match win for Al Watani in front of their home fans at the Al Khartoum Stadium.

After an energy-sapping goalless first half, Amuneke rejigged his team and this paid off almost immediately at the restart as
Nigerian striker Nzekwe Kelechi got the curtain raiser for Al Watani in the 51st minute.
Thereafter, it was an even contest with some fierce battle in the middle of the pitch.
In the 71st minute however, Salah struck again to register Al Watani’s second goal of the evening.

This victory was the second in as many matches for Al Watani under Amuneke following Saturday’s 4-0 win over Shabia SC at the same venue.

Burkina Faso and already-eliminated Cameroon drew 1-1.

Burkina Faso finished with two points, while Cameroon recorded a point to finish bottom odf the standings.
Nigeria drew 0-0 with Cameroon in Rabat in a test game just before the championship got underway.

15 YEARS OLD AND ALREADY IN THE BIG LEAGUES
*Confédération Africaine de Football

“He is a very intelligent player, talented and has potential, which is why I made the decision to pick him for the CHAN. It will allow him to gain experience. For me, this player is the future of Nigeria. He will be a star in a few years. Being 15 years did not stop me from selecting him backed by his talent and technique. He is above the lot. He’s a player who can do a lot with the ball,” Nigeria coach Salisu Yusuf said.

Nigeria number 20, Mohammed Nur is the youngest player at the tournament. Born on 2 December 2002, the 15-year-old came on as a substitute in the Group C clash against Rwanda, and played for seven minutes. He is not at the CHAN just to make the list. Despite his young age, he is already writing in capital letters the first lines of a promising career.

“I started out on the street, like all players in Nigeria, before being spotted by coaches. Then I joined the club, El Kanemi Warriors. I started my career just a year ago. I was with the U-17 before the national coach Salisu Yusuf invited me to the squad for the CHAN.

“Honestly, I did not expect that. I started my career a year ago and I am already playing a major tournament like CHAN. It’s a real fairy tale. In addition, I made an appearance against Rwanda in the first match. While playing in my neighbourhood, I didn’t expect that one day, I would become an international and don the colours of Nigeria. As a muslim, I can only thank almighty God,” Nur recalled.

Very ambitious, the teenager obviously has a dream like every kid and aspires to hit the world stage like his idols.

“On a global level, I really like Mesut Ozil, but in Nigeria, I have my idol, which is John Obi Mikel. I wish to have a career like him because he is a great player. I mentioned Obi Mikel because I do not remember the magic moments of Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha. I also like our number 10, Rabiu Ali, who is nicknamed Pelé. He is a great player,” added Nur.

In the case of the latter, admiration seems reciprocal. Ali, who is the playmaker of the Nigerian team has taken the youngster under his wings and says nothing but good.

“What I like about him (Nur) is that he listens to advice. He is ambitious and listens to everything. Technically and physically, he’s an extraordinary player. For this tournament, he is learning but for the next tournaments, expect to discover a great player,” Ali observed.

Obviously Nur has dreams for the future, a better tomorrow, but does not fail to appreciate the opportunity offered by his current club, El Kanemi Warriors.

“It's alright. I'm living right now in Nigeria with the money my club gives me, not in great conditions but it can get better. Like all ambitious players, I hope to sign a professional contract abroad. It will allow me to make a good living, also progress in the sport.”

In the meantime, Nur has time to learn at a competition which has paved the way for many players to stardom.

20-year-old Nigerian winger ‘dreams of Manchester City’ and playing with Kevin De Bruyne
By City Watch 

SAMUEL KALU Gent winger Samuel Kalu is dreaming big – he wants to play in the Premier League for Manchester City in the future.
The 20-year-old Nigerian is currently plying his trade in Belgium’s top flight with Gent and speaking to Het Laatste Nieuws , said his ultimate dream is a move to England and playing alongside Kevin De Bruyne at the Etihad Stadium.

“CSKA Moscow wanted me and I knew the Russian league was a good step forward, but my agent assured me AA Gent would be the best step for me. I can only say he was right.

“I want to play at a big club, win a lot of medals and trophies, I want to become the best player in Africa, I’m a bit of the same type of player as Mo Salah, who was voted the best African player.

“I will always follow in his footsteps, my biggest dream, but I have to go to the Premier League first.

“Manchester City is my dream club : playing with Kevin De Bruyne, but first I want to win a trophy with AA Gent.”

Kalu has scored 4 goals and contributed 2 assists in 17 Jupiler League appearances for Gent this season, with a goal contribution every 282 minutes.

Transfermarkt values him at €4million and his current contract runs to 2020. A move to Manchester City seems a long way off for the winger, but it never hurts to dream big.

Agent Of Leicester City Nigerian Striker : Most Likely He'll Join CSKA Moscow

Tony Harris, who handles the affairs of Ahmed Musa, believes his client will be loaned out to CSKA Moscow before the transfer window closes for business.

The Nigeria international represented the Muscovites from 2012-2016, and was credited with 54 goals in 168 matches before he transferred to the Foxes in the summer of 2016.

''Negotiations with Leicester continue and go in a positive light. Most likely, Ahmed will go on loan to CSKA in this transfer window. The chances for this are very high,'' Harris told championat.com.

With the World Cup approaching, Musa wants to join a club where he's guaranteed first-team match experience, which he's presently not getting at the Foxes, with Jamie Vardy, Okazaki, Slimani and Iheanacho ahead of him in the pecking order of strikers.

The former Kano Pillars star is keeping up his match fitness by playing some games for Leicester City's U23 squad.
He has a contract with Leicester City until June 30, 2020.

Now that CHAN is a grade A FIFA tournament, I don’t think it is best for us to treat it as an age grade tournament. Young players should earn their place in the team regardless. Personally, I would like CAF to change the tournament criteria to include debutants — not restricted to players playing in the domestic league.

Players playing in Africa should be a good start. But eventually, players all over the world who have not earned any prior cap for their national teams.

Icon4s:

You couldn't have said it any better.

Simply put and plain.

I believe this should be the last CHAN for some old players in that team.

Even without CAF fixing an age limit, the NFF needs to set a goal for participating in CHAN. If it is for talent discovery I see no reason why Papas like Rabiu Ali and Osas Okoro would be playing. Are they still hoping to make the Super Eagles team or a team in Europe?

In subsequent CHAN we need to see younger players please. That will add more value to both the league and the national teams.

I called him an attacking wing back and that's what he is. We are talking about a winger converted to a wing back just like Moses, nobody will expect such a player's defensive game to be his forte. If a team of the tournament were to be announced today, I don't think another wing back will get in ahead of Osas.

I mentioned him after Shehu's paupers game against South Africa where he couldn't manage a single cross all game . He couldn't even get past his marker. In games where you need attacking outlet from the full back, Osas is better than Shehu in that regard. I stand to be corrected.

I mentioned Kalu Orji Okagbue as well, he has been mustard so far. I don't know why people rate Eze ahead of him. Kalu is the real deal in that defense.

I quite agree with you. We had U17, U20 and U23. It is not the fault of the home based players the U17s and U20s failed to qualify for their African championships.

I think the goal of Caf with Chan invention is to develop African leagues, not under anything.

Players who hitherto cannot get in ahead of the top European stars will have another chance to play international matches. Guys like Emeka Nwanna, Endurance Idaho, Okey Odita, Kelechi Osunwa,Ndubuisi Eze etc would have benefited from a tournament like this if we had Chan earlier.

You're not a new comer here na. There is a strong anti home based footballers sentiment here. It's like a phobia. If you're realizing this now, I say "GOOD MORNING".
They claimed our Fifa ranking will be brought down by these guys, when the main Super Eagles brought down the Fifa rankings themselves over the past 3-4 years. The irony I find is that these Chan guys could boast our rankings with a semifinal appearance, which was a personal target I set for the team.

See, if they play great football, you will see great praise. It will be obvious, no one can deny it.

If they play outstanding football against Angola, i will be the first to praise them but if i see poor quality, i will also comment on that as well.

Trying to suggest that those who criticize are showing "total hatred" is wrong and unfair.

In the first half against Rwanda, how many criticisms did you see apart from the team's inability to finish chances? When they depreciated in the second half, the criticism was deserved.

Let us be honest.

The players are victims of the Nigerian system. A player like Rabiu Ali would have become a great player with the right coaching and exposure.

When you make a move to a new club , you try as much as possible to give ur best.

The thing is that they were not able to adapt to Chelsea's system back then.

So, its more of a problem of adaptation and also competition for positions.

For e.g Nacho is quality, but found it difficult to adapt to the Leicester system.Competion for the No. 9 position didn't even help matters.

My man with due respect i don't need to mention names here but roll back pages here and analyse some comments regards CHAN then you would agree that some comments wasn't base on critical view of the team even before the commencement of CHAN.

Mind you am not saying the team is perfect or they are getting it right cos they need to improve to beat Angola but guys needs to talk like football pundits not just bashing.

I have actually seen him play even better than this. You know the last time these guys played competitive games was October last year at the end of the season. I would think Osas is playing at 70% and even at that, he is still the best wing back in the tournament. I understand he's being courted by several clubs, including a certain Locomotive.
