You know the FIFA ranking is used for seeding of teams in both FIFA and CAF organized tournaments.

And I am sure you know the importance of seedings.

I am sure you also know that we have always shown concerns about the rankings when the Super Eagles play. So because the CHAN team is playing we should look away and not think of rankings?
I'm not saying we should not take it serious but you sound like we should have take Egypt approach just to maintain our already poor ranking or what are you trying to say Sir.

I am of the opinion that CAF should either restructure it or scrap it. Period.

Not that we should not participate.

Ok getting your stand now but why restructuring or scrapping?

I am sure he meant his 30-man provisional list for the World Cup proper. Not the friendlies.

And you serious about Bazee? Well, that would be great. Need to see the dude in a GWG shirt. He's really been unfortunate with timing of the injuries but trusts he returns soon enough to feature. smiley

One of the major aims of this CHAN is to unearth players who due to the preponderance of Foreign based players in their national team never got opportunity to show-case their abilities and get noticed by the national team handlers. But the tournament, Nigeria and other West African teams for example, is dominated with players who are very not likely to gain the attention of the National team handlers no matter what. This although has benefited teams from Eastern and Southern Africa more.

Another aim is to help develop the local league in the participating countries but instead it has become another spring board for players to move to foreign countries thereby depleting the league the more. Particularly for teams from West Africa.

No West African team has ever won it. You know why ? They present "B" teams to play against "A" teams from East, Central, Southern African and to some extent North African countries. We should restructure it here to get a level playing field.

This tournament is accorded 3 ranking points same as what we have in the regular AFCON. The first time the ranking points were awarded to CHAN teams was at the 2014 CHAN. But then it was just 1point. Making it equivalent to friendlies. But now it has been upgraded to 3points! Meaning that teams like Sudan, Namibia, Angola etc are going to get high ranking points if they get as far as the semis. And Ivory coast and Cameroon who we know are African power houses are going to plunge in the rankings. What if a team like Namibia or Sudan get to the final or eventually wins it. Their ranking will soar and when CAF wants to do seedings for a next competition like qualifiers or AFCON, Namibia and or Sudan can be seeded while teams like CIV , Nigeria and Cameroon would be placed in other pots. And of course you know the implication of this.

My recommendation is this tournament should be restructured to an U21 tourney that will be played during end of season and it should involve all players whether local or foreign based.

And that means FIFA will not award ranking points for it. Which I am OK with. The AFCON is there already for the ranking points.

I'm kinda believing nothing is wrong with CHAN. It's a good Platform to boost Africa Football. Its also a huge medium to discover new Talents in the Continent.

There are many younger Players in the Team; Falaye, Ojo, Nur, Orji and Co are still young and could eventually make the Super Eagles Team one day.

We shouldn't write off the Competition because of FIFA Ranking and Seeding, rather taking it more serious. I think FIFA upgrade the Status of the Tournament to making it more competitive.

Since we all know it's gonna have either a positive or negative impact on the Team 's Ranking, then it's very important we parade our best Legs not underage Players.

I must confess that Amaju Pinnick is working. For the first time ever, the NFF have considered hiring for our Super Falcons, a foreign technical adviser in Thomas Dennerby. Now let's get it right with our local coaches.

Less Than 6,000 Fans To Watch Nigeria-Serbia Friendly, Cheapest Seat N9,000

The Nigeria Football Federation have confirmed that the Super Eagles will take on the Serbian national team in a pre-World Cup friendly at the Hive Stadium on March 27.

The 5,176 capacity stadium in Canons Park hosted the friendly between Nigeria and Senegal on March 23, 2017, and a proposed friendly against Burkina Faso four days later was cancelled.
The tickets for the game will cost at least £18 (approximately N9,000.00) for adults and £10 (N5,000.00) for juniors.
The kick-off time for the friendly against Serbia has been confirmed at 2000 hours.

Nemanja Matić (Manchester United), Dušan Tadić (Southampton), Luka Milivojević (Crystal Palace) and Aleksandar Mitrović (Newcastle) are the English-based players expected to be called up to the Serbian team for the friendly against Nigeria.
Ahead of the Super Eagles trip to Russia in June, the Nigerian Federation have also lined up friendlies against Poland, Democratic Republic of Congo, England and Czech Republic.

Ezenwa: Home Eagles Won’t Underrate Angola In CHAN Quarter-Final
By Adeboye Amosu

Home-based Super Eagles captain, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, insists the team is battle ready for Sunday’s African Nations Championship quarter-final clash against Angola, Completesportsnigeria.com (CSN) reports.

The Home Eagles secured their passage to the quarter-finals after coming from a goal down to beat Equatorial Guinea 3-1 in their final group game on Tuesday, while Angola booked their spot after battling to a 0-0 draw against Congo.

Nigeria topped Group C with two wins and a draw, while the Angolans came second in Group D behind Congo following a win and two draws from their three group games.

“We are firmly focused on the game against Angola. Our main target is to win the trophy but we must take it one game at a time,” Ezenwa told CSN.

“At this stage of the competition, there is little room for mistake as it could prove costly.

“Angola have done well by getting to this stage of the competition and we have to respect and not underrate them even though they finished second in their group.

“We have to prepare very well for the game and give our best to make sure we scale through.”

Argentina Winger: Nigeria Are Our Most Difficult Opponents In Group D

FC Zenit Saint Petersburg winger Emiliano Rigoni has named Nigeria as Argentina's most difficult opponents in Group D of the 2018 World Cup.

The two-time world champions have already beaten the Super Eagles four times in four attempts in previous tournaments but Rigoni is aware of the fact that they were humiliated 4-2 in a friendly two months ago.

''The group is hard. In general, I think that there is no such group at the World Cup in Russia where you can definitely say who is the favorite, where exactly you know which teams will leave the group,'' Rigoni told Zenit's official website.

''This is not, all matches will be difficult. Separately, I would single out the game with Nigeria, with which we have already met a huge number of times in the last World Cup, and it has never been easy.

''It will not be easy this time, but we come to this tournament with a clear desire to win all, not to lose a single match and win the title.''

Emiliano Rigoni replaced ángel Di María in the 76th minute during the friendly in Krasnodar on November 14.

Pls check my inputs on your list.

If you go by the recent statements made by Rohr, he hardly mentions Akpeyi. He has talked about Ezenwa, Uzoho, Alampasu, Okafor but he has not said much about Akpeyi. This suggests to me that he is not looking at Akpeyi for the WC.

He sent coaches to Uzoho and Alampasu to get them to WC level.

I watched highlights of several league games yesterday and the quality was poor.

You can't give what you don't have. If the quality of coaching improves, the quality of football improves. Perhaps, LMC needs to raises the minimum requirement for coaches.

NFF sets lofty mandate for Gernot Rohr

The Nigeria Football Federation and Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr officially signed a new contract at a ceremony last week Wednesday in Lagos.

Key clauses in the contract were that the coach must qualify the Super Eagles for the 2019 AFCON and take the team to at least the semifinal of the tournament.

“The mandate is very clear; the first contract stipulated that he must qualify the Eagles for the 2018 World Cup, he achieved that and that is why the NFF has granted him an extension of two years even when the existing deal still has about six months to run. It is clearly stated in the new contract that the Eagles must win the ticket to AFCON 2019 and they have to reach the semifinal of the tournament.

“So much premium is placed on AFCON because we missed the last two editions of the tournament and the NFF wants to make a statement with the next one. Rohr has agreed to walk away if he doesn’t achieve the mandate,”
a source in the NFF’s headquarters told our correspondent.

The NFF, at the contract-signing ceremony, confirmed that the coach got an enhanced package but did not mention the figure.
New Telegraph has learnt that the coach would earn a salary in the region of $60,000- per month after the company bankrolling the pay, Aiteo Group, endorsed the new deal.

Meanwhile, the NFF may increase the backroom staff of the team ahead of the start of the World Cup. The federation, our correspondent learnt, would use part of the $500, 000 grants from the Confederation of African Football to World Cup participating countries from the continent to hire more hands that will help Rohr at the tournament.
“One of the technical people that will be hired is a Physical and Psychology Performance expert,” a source said.

Nigerian CB Looking Forward To The Biggest Game Of His Career Vs Manchester United

Nigerian central defender Omar Sowunmi is looking forward to unarguably the biggest game of his career when his team Yeovil Town face Manchester United in the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup on Friday night.

Manchester United have in their ranks new signing from Arsenal Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford, but Sowunmi is confident that he can hold his own against these top strikers.
''I’m very excited for the game! It will be a good test for all the boys and probably the biggest club most of the boys have come up against,'' said Omar Sowunmi to allnigeriasoccer.com .

''I have faced none of the players Sanchez, Lukaku and Martial so far in my career, so I am looking forward to it.''

Sowunmi missed Yeovil Town's third round clash vs Bradford City due to suspension but is set to return to the squad for today's tie at Huish Park.

The 22-year-old was named in the starting line-up against Southend United and Port Vale in the earlier rounds of the FA Cup.
