Official : FC Porto Hooks Mikel Till 2021, Buy-Out Clause Now €30m

Portuguese top division side FC Porto have announced through official channels that Nigerian midfielder Mikel Agu has extended his contract with the team till 2021.

The 23 year old has grown into an influential player for his loan side Vitoria Setubal this season. A form that has now earn him fresh terms with the Portuguese giants.

Shortly after signing the dotted lines, the hard tackling defensive midfielder said he is ready for the challenge of breaking into the first team as early as next season.

He thanked FC Porto for their faith in him despite all that happened in the past few years, apparently referring to the numerous injury battles he had plus a failed loan stint with Club Brugge of Belgium.

Following his contract extension Porto might end up having as many as four Nigerians in their team next season with Musa Yahaya, Chidozie Awaziem and Fidelis Irhene also pushing for a spot in the first team.

Why Monaco Are Yet To Announce Signing Of Moses Simon Despite Postive Talks With Gent

High flying French Ligue 1 side Monaco are presently locked in talks with Gent of Belgium over a possible deal in the summer for dashing winger Moses Simon according to Belgium publication Voetbalkrants.com.

Monaco have resigned to losing some of their top stars after a stellar season in France and Europe, with the team currently leading the Ligue 1 table and also through to the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League.

The club views Simon as a player who can replaced some of their stars who are expected to leave in the summer, and suggestions are that the deal is almost near completion as both parties are eager for the move to go through.

Presently what is holding the deal is a compromise on what will be the sell on clause due to Gent, if the 23 year old leaves Monaco in a few years time, and the duration which the clause will last.

Reports gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com sources has it that Monaco are willing to pay £12M for his services, plus the promise of first team football which will sway him their way ahead of English Premier League side West Brom who are also interested in his services.

Simon wants to represent Nigeria at next summer World Cup in Russia, if Nigeria qaualifies and will only accept a move to a team that will assure him of their plans for him as regards playing time.

I do remember. They took advantage of a scared Dortmund side and won a match that should have been postponed but that's in the past. Next week we will see how well they perform against Juve although they have impressed but that's the last hurdle

So, they were scared home and away to chop double defeats, ba!? shocked grin

This is exactly why I have even advocating for the Nff looking from home and developing home grown talents, not depending on foreign nations to develop players while we take the easy option to lurch in the corner and stake claim these players. When we can't get them, we throw tantrums and cry foul.

I will share a first hand experience when I was in secondary school, a friend of mine James used to be fastest sprinter in the school. He was clocked by our games master running sub 12 seconds in a 100 meters dash at Js 3. This guy haven't met a trainer in his life, he doesn't know anything about diets and haven't trained at a high performance training centre.
If he had undergone some of these training programmes, we would be looking at an African record holder before he turned 18 and probably a multiple Olympic gold/silver medalist.

All that is past tense, he is now working in a chilled ac office and probably haven't done 2 push ups in donkey years.

A lot of talents slip through our fingers in this country in astronomical numbers that even those we call our best aren't really the best.

exactly.. many a time I marvel at the few Nigerian kids in diaspora making waves....
that goes to show that a lot of potentials are left to waste in this country
I tell you they're many in the streets of Lagos ,kano, Benin, Aba etc that will play better than Dele Alli, Alaba etc but no strictures and management to harness this talents

Even if the game was replayed this morning, they will still win. They are that good.

I will be surprised if Juventus can contain Europe's most scoring team. Those guys have scored triple figures goals this season with games still to play.
so, what happened to them Yesterday against PSG? They left their scoring boots at home? 5 goals is a lot to let in unreplied.

You forget that Juve are a highly defensive side who haven't let in any goals in this KO stage, let us see who will break down that solid back 4 and breach Buffon's fortress

Monaco played their 3rd string squad with only Germain who is their second 11 striker starting (he was even substituted).
Monaco have bigger fish to fry with the French league and champions league in sight. Psg obviously wanted the league cup more.

NIGERIA VERSUS GERMANY DATE CONFIRMED
by Phumzile Ngcatshe

Wilfred Ndidi (left)

According to media reports in Nigeria, the proposed international friendly between Germany and Nigeria has been scheduled for 17 November 2017.

Nigerian media reports reveal that the highly anticipated friendly game between the Super Eagles and the Manschaft has been confirmed.

According to a to a member of the Nigeria Football Federation, the ongoing talks between the two football associations has bore fruit.

Super Eagles of Nigeria mentor, Gernot Rohr is reportedly the first person to confirm talks with the world champions.
OwnGoalNigeria website has it that Rohr confirmed the fixture before a mail was sent by the Nigerian website to a member of the German FA.

The match is meant to prepare the Nigeria national team for the task of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

”You can’t be in talks with a nation like Germany without a date in mind, so we have proposed a date of the 17 November 2017 at a yet to be agreed venue,“ he told Owngoalnigeria.com.

”For now we are looking at three venues - Paris, London or Germany. Soon a decision will be reached by both parties and an announcement will be made as well.”

The Super Eagles will meet South Africa in a 2019 AFCON qualifier in June and face Cameroon in August in their crucial qualifier en route to Russia.

Chelsea Boss Conte Runs The Rule Over Promising Nigerian Striker Ike Ugbo

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was among the 5,000 onlookers that witnessed Chelsea win their fourth FA Youth Cup in a row following their 6-2 aggregate victory over Manchester City.

Two Nigerian players that starred and scored in last season's final, Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham, were invited to train with the Blues first team by the Italian during pre-season last summer.

Chelsea scored five goals against Manchester City on Wednesday night, but it was Ugbo's sublime strike in the first half that produced a brilliant reaction from Conte and the Italian was captured by the cameras smiling, as if to show he's impressed with his qualities.

London-born Ugbo joined Chelsea at U10 level and has racked up an impressive 62 goals for the U18, U19 and U23 teams since his debut in the 2013-14 season.

The 18-year-old signed professional terms with Chelsea in September 2015.

Mikel Gives Rohr Good News Ahead AFCON 2019 Qualifiers Clash With South Africa

Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has been handed a big boost ahead of the AFCON 2019 Qualifiers against South Africa in Uyo, following the return to training of team captain John Obi Mikel.

Mikel has been out injured for two weeks with what looks like a suspect tear on his thigh muscle. The injury made him missed Tianjin Teda’s last two league games after playing in all of their games since his move from Chelsea.

There has been fears that the injury could see the influential captain of the Nigerian team miss the upcoming AFCON 2019 Qualifiers against South Africa in June, but that can’t be said to be the case according to reports exclusively gathered by our editorial staff.

Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively report that the recently turned 30 year old has resumed light work without the ball, and could make a full recovery in few days time.

”He is back in light training, Let’s say in few days time he will be fully fit to return to the pitch. No doubt he will be fit for the Super Eagles, you can take that to the bank”, his bonafide intermediary told Owngoalnigeria.com

Arsenal Manager Wenger Praises Leicester Ndidi – He Helped Them Defend Deep With Ease

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says Wilfred Ndidi played a big role for Leicester City in keeping Arsenal at bay until Robert Huth deflected Nacho Monreal’s shot into his own net.

Ndidi has earned praises from various quarters since his £16M move to the Foxes from Belgian side Genk in January, as a replacement for former Leicester City fans favourite N’Golo Kante.

Wenger while speaking to French broadcaster SFR Sport mentioned the 20 year old Nigerian as one of the players who made it difficult for the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alex Sanchez and Danny Welbeck to wreck havoc.

”We had a very good spell in the second half. We know we have to be patient especially with the way they were defending deep. Wilfred Ndidi did help them do that with ease”, Wenger said.

”Two good tackles in the box when it looks like we were in with a chance from him (Ndidi), We just have to keep on pushing and pushing eventually we got rewarded with the goal.

”The victory didn’t come easy but you won’t say we don’t deserve it. Leicester are a very strong side and we saw a bit of it in the game”.

NFF Technical Director Made Mikel Star Of Nigerian Football & Nine Other Facts About Ex-Chelsea Ace

Allnigeriasoccer.com has uncovered ten interesting facts about former Chelsea star and Super Eagles skipper John Obi Mikel.

1) A certain Bright Okafor is credited with the discovery of Mikel and he took the attacking midfielder to the Nigerian U17 camp in 2002.

2) At the training camp, Mikel’s performance did not measure up to standard in the eyes of the technical crew and he was subsequently dropped by coach Ganiyu Salami.

3) If not for Bitrus Bewarang, now the Technical Director of the Nigerian Federation, perhaps nobody would have heard about Mikel. Bewarang was unhappy that Mikel was axed from the U17 squad and he gave a written note to Bright Okafor to take to the U17 coaches to reverse their decision.

4) Mikel was reinstated into the squad after starring for Plateau United Feeders in their 4-0 thrashing of the Golden Eaglets in a friendly. Another gem was uncovered in the national team’s trip to Jos in the shape of Ezekiel Bala, who netted a brace for Jos City Raiders in their 2-2 draw with the Nigeria U17s. Both were handed fresh call ups.

5) Mikel spent his formative years as a footballer at Greater Tomorrow FC (now known as El Kanemi Junior Jos), before joining Pepsi Football Academy and Plateau United Feeders.

6) He began his education at Township School Jos before proceeding to the famous Saint Murumba College Jos.

7) Mikel played the number ten role for all the grassroots teams he represented in Nigeria due to his exceptional qualities.

8.) Born on 22 April 1987, he trained with South African club Ajax Cape Town for several months before he was snapped up by Lyn Oslo (Norway).

9) He holds the record of being the most expensive Nigerian teenager signed by a European club when Chelsea paid a combined transfer fee in the region of 20 million euros to secure his signature from Lyn Oslo.

10) Mikel racked up 16,228 minutes of game time in the Premier League prior to his move to Tianjin Teda.

Exclusive : Liverpool Scout Watches Porto Nigerian Defender Awaziem, Agent Coy On Links

FC Porto Nigerian defender Chidozie Awaziem is clsoely being watched by scouts of English Premier League side Liverpool, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

The highly rated Nigerian defender had his breakthrough last season at FC Porto and was widely tipped to make the step up this season but he has failed to play for the first team this season.

However he has been ever present for the B team, who are campaigning in the second division in Portugal, and a scout from Liverpool who shares close links with his agent has watched him severally.

Awaziem even had a chat with the scout in London, when the senior national team of Nigeria trained for their friendly game against Senegal, Owngoalnigeria.com can also reveal.

A bid is not said to be imminent from our findings, but he is closely been watched with regards to a move in the future , and his agent failed to deny or confirmed the story when we asked him of Liverpool’s interest in his client.

”Awaziem is a good player, but he belongs to FC Porto, maybe you can ask them if there has been talks. Although I know contact was made with some teams in England but that was a long time ago and it wasn’t even Liverpool “, Babawo Mohammed told Owngoalnigeria.com.

”I’m not aware of any meeting with a scout from Liverpool but this is football, where anything can happen especially when you talking about a player, who has all it takes to be a star in a not too distant future”.

Nigerian Striker Theophilus Solomon Makes Team Of The Year In Croatia (25-man Nomination stage)

Highly rated Nigerian forward Theophilus Solomon has been nominated in a shortlist of 25 players for the best 11 players in the soon to be completed first division league in Croatia.

Largely tipped as the next big thing in Nigeria football few years ago, the now 21 year old lost his way, no thanks to injuries and poor form. But he has managed to stay fit this season and his contributions have been rewarded with a team of the year nomination.

Solomon on loan to newly promoted Istra from league leaders Rijeka has scored six goals this season with same amount of assist to his name from despite playing for a team whose first priority is to defend.

”It has taken a while for him to blossom, but this season more than ever he has been very consistent for Istra, and to a large extent his overall contribution has helped the team in defence as well”, a piece on his nomination for the team of the year reads.

”Not normal to say his goals have helped Istra maintained their top flight status, but worthy to state that he has scored in games, where they badly need points. Obviously his contributions can’t be overlooked”, it concluded.

I don't mind if he hails from any west Africa country...
so many nations have been stealing our players all because they grew up in their academics so it won't be bad should we get to cap our west Africa neighbors lads...it will even be exciting

my fear is...the NFF should not go and employ a selfish under 17 coach...who is after money to be made from players signing etc.
because should a misfit will jeopardize the essence of this whole Tourney

I sincerely share your thoughts.

But one thing is I cannot rate even the best 11 from this tournament as totally good enough for the eaglets. Recall I described that Million Kome guy as a potential candidate for the eaglets team.

Why?

This U15 tournament carries players who were horridly assembled for the sake of the tourney.
No traditional academy team is participating. I believe those academy boys may be more grounded in the knowledge of the game than these ones.

My take is after selecting 23 players from this tourney the selection should also be extended to cover players from the traditional football academies. And let the best be taken.

So when you don't see some of the best from this tournament not making the next eaglets team let's not cry fowl. And I sincerely wish the selection be done without sentiments and "mago-mago".

Probably or probably not. He may still have found relevance later in his career. A golden fish has no hiding place

Etebo was dropped by Manu Garba at U20 level but he found his way into Siasia's U23. And today he has featured for the Super Eagles before all those Manu U20 players except Simon and Iheanacho.

You saw how Osimhen and Success walked into the Eaglets camp without anyone fronting them. And they both emerged top CF for their respective eaglets team.

When you are destined for greatness no one can stop it.

Enugu ’s Koma Million Wins Copa Coca -Cola 2016 MVP Award

Enugu State’s National Grammar School, star footballer, Koma Million has won this year’s COPA Coca-Cola Golden Ball award, as the best player of this year’s football tournament.

Regardless of his team losing out to Oyo State’s Asegun Comprehensive with a 5-3 penalty shoot-out, following a goalless 90 minutes in the grand finale, Koma’s excellent play saw him being voted as the Player of the tournament.

Koma, who was exceptional in the final, was handed over the prestigious Golden Ball award for being the stand-out player of the competition with four assists and eight goals.

Recounting his best moment during the tournament, Koma stated, “My best moment was in the semi-final match where I scored a free-kick that took us to the final”.

Koma thanked Coca-Cola for creating this platform to discover more talents, and he believes the award will improve him. “With this award, I will continue doing well until I finally play for the Super Eagles and professional football in Europe”.

How I wish the next U 17 Coaches will pick players rightly.

I see this guy breaking through one of our youth teams already.

This is how we roll in Nigeria. Man must know man before anybody looks your way, be it to sign for a club or to be considered for the national team.
If Mikel had nobody to speak for him, he would probably be playing for Platue Utd or Delta force in the NNL.

So true, I read just now how Anthony Joshua wanted to fight for Nigeria in the 2012 Olympics but was not given a chance by the boxing coaches. He won the Gold medal for England and is now world champion. That is how we lost a Gold medal and a potential world champion.

Has the rules changed regarding special talent?

The exceptions panel would consider appeals using its discretion which in my opinion allowed for high level of subjectivity.

Since May 2015 things have been tightened up with point system limiting the discretion previously exercised by the exceptions panel.

It's in this regard I explained Nwakali's ability to get a work permit is unlikely.

Chelsea has the best youth system in England. They keep churning out world class talent and winning the FA youth cup. There is no space in the main team for the talent they are producing. Komekn

exactly.. many a time I marvel at the few Nigerian kids in diaspora making waves....
that goes to show that a lot of potentials are left to waste in this country
I tell you they're many in the streets of Lagos ,kano, Benin, Aba etc that will play better than Dele Alli, Alaba etc but no strictures and management to harness this talents

Your assumption is wrong.

They are not few but many, did you look at Chelsea U18 Youth Cup winners 2017, yesterday.

At least 4 Nigerian origin boys in that team.

There is no club in EPL club in London that doesn't have at Least 20 boys in its youth ranks.

Agreed.

So the business model works they buy they sell and they might profit. Do they loose out I think they do.

Lukaku is no 1 striker in the EPL and there was no space for him as a Chelsea player. For the Chelsea youth they just need to find another team that will give them opportunities.

We think the problem is with NFF officials? No, it's in Nigerians.
Let's really think deeply about how we behave towards ourselves. That's where it all starts

when you compare them to the numbers we have in Nigeria... they're few, I understand the angle you're coming from
the number of Nigerians in diaspora does not measure up to half of the population at home

mind you prior last general election it was researched that over 60% of eligible voters were between the ages of 18-24 years old old.
