I understand you... we should judge based on current form and also top potentials in terms of present continuous.... But you see, you cannot class Osimhen as a player being called up based on past glory alone.... this is a lad that has always impressed Rohr in the super Eagles Camp while mixing it in training with the big boys of the team.... He is a player with top potentials who did it at the U-17 level and about a month or two later, did it again in impressive fashion at the U-23 level....

His class and potentials are not in doubt and had it not been for injury, he would have made a couple of bundesliga appearances before this season runs out.

In Osimhen, we have the future... and in as much as Rohr works to deliver in the present, he must keep a keen eye also on the future.

Osimhen is not a player with just past glory but a player with reputable talents and potentials which if given a chance after his comeback from injury will surely blossom. You can take that to the bank.

When it comes to England selection even if you do not agree with the team selection. You can still rationalise the team selection pattern.

In this regard it's almost impossible for a player to come from championship and be playing for the 3 Lions.

Wayne Rooney is not having a great time at Man.United, he is struggling to get in the 3 Lions.
Club performances have been good but he is not a first team regular at Manchester United anymore.

When sentiment is put aside, opportunity should be by merit and clear methodology and attainment. This makes it easier for players to understand what the performance standards are. They are then able to pursue those standards with greater motivation knowing that if they perform they will be given an OPPORTUNITY.

When you are returning from Injury it will take months to get back your fitness and form. That will also require competitive games as well.

I would not invite a player returning from Injury to camp, it's unfair on the player as well as the players who are putting in top performances in thier clubs.

Battle on as Dele Alli and Tottenham overtake Alex Iwobi and Arsenal

One of the main storylines from Tottenham's 2-0 win over Arsenal last Sunday was how it highlighted the different trajectories the north London rivals are on.

Spurs' win also highlighted the alternative courses each club's young prospects are taking. While Tottenham's attacking midfielder Dele Alli had another outstanding game, Alex Iwobi watched from the bench as an unused substitute -- a role he's had to get reacquainted to.

Iwobi, 21, is three weeks younger than Alli -- a player he was frequently being compared to after bursting on to the scene last season. Right now, though, they seem light years apart.

Just like his club, Iwobi has seen a promising campaign reach a disappointing end. He has not started a game since the 3-1 defeat at Liverpool in early March, making just two substitute appearances in eight games since then. This for a player who was keeping both Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott out of the side when he broke into the first team as a teenager a little over a year ago, and retained his starting role for the first two thirds of this campaign.

Now Iwobi is back where he started, on the outside looking in, fighting for another chance to show what he can do. That's often been the story for the Nigeria international, who has frequently told the story of how he almost got released from Arsenal's academy on several occasions but always managed to overcome the odds.

"My journey so far has been a bumpy ride, so it's something I look back on and say to myself: 'If I can overcome things that I believe were worse than what's going on now, then surely I should be able to overcome this,'" Iwobi said in the matchday programme for last Wednesday's game against Leicester, candidly discussing his situation.

He certainly has the talent to overcome his current struggles. He remains the best prospect to come out of Arsenal's Hale End academy since Jack Wilshere and possesses a combination of size, strength, technique, vision and pace that could make him a unique player.

And perhaps it's unfair to read too much into his recent demotion to the bench, as a number of factors have contributed to his lack of playing time. Firstly, Alexis Sanchez returned to playing on the left wing -- the position Iwobi normally occupied.

And with Arsenal were going through one of their roughest stretches in years, perhaps Arsene Wenger simply felt more experienced players were more likely to turn the ship around. The recent switch to a back three formation has left Iwobi without a natural role in the lineup, with Sanchez and Mesut Ozil occupying the attacking positions he's best suited for.

One of Iwobi's strengths is his versatility, as he can essentially play four different positions in Wenger's traditional 4-2-3-1 formation. But he still lacks the defensive qualities to operate as a wing-back or central midfielder in the back three system, and he will have to remain patient until Wenger decides to revert to his normal tactics -- which is probably only a matter of time.

There is no reason to write Iwobi off just yet. To borrow one of Wenger's current favourite phrases, he has it "all in his locker" to become the top class attacking midfielder Arsenal are hoping for. In fact, if he does reach his true potential, Arsenal may not have to spend a pound on replacing Ozil if the Germany playmaker leaves the club.

And who knows, perhaps he can still catch up to Tottenham's Alli as well. If Arsenal want to quell Spurs' uprising, they may need him to.

Lyon, Three Others Send Scout To Watch Leicester City Target Etebo Against Porto



Leicester City linked Nigerian forward Oghenekaro Etebo is also courting interest from teams in France with Lyon, Marseille, Montepellier and Lens eyeing a summer swoop for the CD Feirense forward.

Etebo was offered to Premier League champions Leicester City by a scout close to the national team of Nigeria, and the club have been monitoring his progress in view of a move in the summer.

Chelsea Offer Nigerian Whizkid New Deal Worth N1.3 Billion Per Season After Breaking Record





English Premier League side Chelsea are keen to tie down England U21 international of Nigerian heritage Tammy Abraham to a new deal.

The London Evening Standard has now revealed that The Blues will offer the prolific striker a new contract worth £50,000-a-week (approximately N1.3 billion per season in Nigerian currency).


Abraham will double his wages if he puts pen to paper on the new deal as he currently earns 25,000 pounds every week.

Arsenal Rising Star Iwobi : I Have A Long Way To Go In My Career & Things To Prove





Alex Iwobi was pleasantly surprised to see the redeveloped Hale End Academy for the first time.

The Nigeria international graduated from the academy, along with his good pal Chuba Akpom, and was rewarded for his efforts with the U23s when he made his debut for the first team against Sheffield Wednesday in October 2015.

“It looks so futuristic compared to when I was there. I’ve seen new buildings, new pitches, and it just looks amazing,” Iwobi told arsenal.com.

“Someone sent me a picture of my photo hanging up at Hale End. I thought, ‘That’s crazy because back in the day I was looking at Jack Wilshere and all the big players that have come through’.

South Africa/Nigeria: Krol to lead Bafana Bafana Against Super Eagles

The South African Football Association (SAFA) has hired former Orlando Pirates coach, Ruud Krol to lead Bafana Bafana in their Cameroun 2019 African Nations Cup and the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

South Africa will meet Nigeria in a Cameroun 2019 Nations Cup qualifier in June and Krol’s mandate is to ensure the Bafana Bafana beat the Super Eagles to the ticket. Nigeria and South Africa missed the Gabon 2017 edition of the Nations Cup.


According to Africanfootball.com, Krol’s appointment follows months of speculation regarding the vacant coaching job as the association was searching for Shakes Mashaba’s replacement.


Mashaba was axed in December last year after he was found guilty of gross misconduct following his utterances towards SAFA bosses after the 2-1 win over Senegal in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Names such as Stuart Baxter, Gavin Hunt, Hugo Broos, Herve Renard and Carlos Queiroz have been mentioned as possible candidates to lead the side.


However, according to The Mail & Guardian, SAFA have settled for the Dutch mentor as he is seen as someone with extensive knowledge of the African game, both at club and national level.



It is reported that the ex-Oranje skipper has agreed terms and conditions with SAFA to take charge of Bafana after the organisation had initially flirted with Queiroz.

After failing to secure their preferred candidate and with Bafana due to line-up against Guinea Bissau and Angola in friendly matches in the next seven days, SAFA opted for the ex-Zamalek and CS Sfaxien manager.

“He has coached in his native Holland. But he has also worked mainly in Africa since 1994 when he took charge of the Egyptian U-23’s and later the senior team and what appears to have given him an added advantage is that he is available to start working without delay,” said a source to the Mail & Guardian.

“SAFA stated openly when they advertised the post that the criteria required for a successful Bafana Bafana coach would be an intimate and extensive knowledge of the African game.

“The criteria as elucidated by SAFA goes on to point out that the successful candidate must have an excellent understanding of the South African playing philosophy, or playing style, as some people like to describe our approach to the game.

“In fact, it goes on to explain that he must have international coaching experience with a good track record allied to a vision and passion for football development and good player management to complete SAFA’s Vision 2022.”

Integrity: NFF demands total compliance, asks for resignation letters





The Nigeria Football Federation has moved to enforce earlier circulars it sent out to all its affiliate bodies in respect of football officials playing multiple roles that amount to conflicts of interest in the football space.

In a letter dated 2nd May 2017 and signed by the General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, the Federation unequivocally requested “all affiliates to send to the office of the National Integrity Officer received copies of resignation letters by all affected officials on or before 12th May 2017.

The said letters should be scanned and sent to the following email: christian.emeruwa77@gmail.com .”


For avoidance of doubt, the NFF listed the following as specific issues contained in previous circulars to its affiliates:


1) We have observed that some Club Officials are currently operating as Match Commissioners in some strata of our Leagues. In view of these reforms, No Club Official should be appointed as a Match Commissioner/ Referee Assessor in any of our Leagues in Nigeria.


2) Also, we advise that No State Football Association Secretary should be appointed as a Club Secretary, considering the fact that the State FA Secretaries in most cases are the chief organizers of matches within their territories.


3) State Football Association Chairmen that are appointed as Independent Directors in our leagues should no longer be appointed as Match Commissioners/ Referee Assessors in our league games.


4) State Football Association Chairmen should not be doubling
as Football Club Chairmen. Hence, all State FA Chairmen that are holding dual offices as Club Chairmen are advised to either relinquish the State FA Chairmanship position or that of the Club Chairmanship position within three (3) months from the date of this Circular.


5) State FA Chairmen that are also appointed as Board Members of Football Club Boards are to also decide to either be Club Board members or State FA Chairmen as they are henceforth not allowed to hold dual position forthwith.


6) All NFF Executive Committee Members, NFF Management and Staff, State Football Association Chairmen and their respective Board Members, Club Chairmen and Officials, Coaches and all other Football Officials are hereby directed to desist from Acting as Intermediaries (Agent/Managers) to players forthwith.
