sahgya: It is hard to advice you on that. We don't know the quality of your education, the quality of your experience, the quality of the firm you are going to work for and the added value you will be bringing. You could be worth more and being shafted, or you could be worth less and being overpaid. That said $57K without having to pay for accommodation, transport, bills and healthcare means you will never be hard up in Nigeria. You will live a very good life. That is $57K of disposable income. That pay puts you in the top 1% of earners in the country. 1 Like |

I think it will depend on your usage, the usual practise is to top-up or buy a airtime on pay as you go you can check the other sections of this site or check the providers multilinks, Airtel, Glo, Visaphone http://www.ng.airtel.com/Personal/Tariffs.aspx http://www.ng.airtel.com/Personal/Tariffs.aspx |

^^ I think you should contact recruitment agencies in Nigeria, have a chat with them they'll be able to advise you better, getting specific response might take longer on here Goodluck |

frosbel: That looks just about right, actually. The much-vaunted MNCs that pay the wages commensurate to the West don't even employ up to 2% of the workforce. If you look at the India version on Payscale, you'll discover that wages are even lower there than in Nigeria. |

@Dre901 Most good companies in Nigeria pay well for fresh starters into what ever industry you find yourself in. Oil & Gas pays the most, I guess between 2.5m to 4m per year includes benfits Telecoms will take my second postion between 1.5m to 2m per year depending on the telecomms company. Banking between 1m to 2m (Oceanic Bank pays the highest of 2m for fresh men) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Do you consider these as well paid job? Oil /Gas - N4m which is €24,000/annum Well, not a bad start, Telecoms -N2 which is €12,000/Annum Freaking Joking with me, that's slavery Banking - N2 which is €12,000/Annum Apart from Oil/Gas,is N2 enough to start life in Naija?Just asking because that's what a kitchen Porter or even a security guy makes in europe if not more and it's nothing to write home about. |

Hello Nairalanders, I have been reading postings on this forum for a while and I must admit that it has been very informative. My question to you guys is this, with an Undergradute degree in Accountancy in the U.S (Graduated with Honours, a First Class equivalent in Nigeria) and currently pursuing a Masters degree in Accountancy. Once I am done with the Masters degree in Summer 2011, I am contemplating moving back to Nigeria to start a career. Realistically, what should I expect as salary per annum with either the Oil or Telecom companies? Also bear in mind that I have received a job offer from one of the big accounting firms here in the states. Thanks |

Hmmmm, Nobody is saying anything about NGOs' pay. For good and well established ones, the least cadre like drivers/office assistant earn over 100k per month. I'm sure there are so many other well paying sector that people seem to overlook. Enough of banks, oil& gas bla bla bla, |

zionmmv: N2m is a very good salary for freshers (just left undergrad studies) in Nigeria. Standard of living is much lower in Nigeria. |

^^ Is that from a research organization, or the research desk of a multinational? What is the position? That looks like an average manager salary in most sectors, apart from upstream oil and gas. |

Hi Thanks , its an R& manager position in a Food MNC. Do you think the offer is below average? |

Re: How Much is a Good Salary in Nigeria? by syllogism: 2:11pm On Apr 17, 2011 |
I live in Sydney and have begun outsourcing work on the internet. Recently I gave a contract to a Nigerian guy from Nsukka and want to understand whether I am paying him decent money. I work for a university, so it's important to me and my supervisors that we're treating people fairly, and that they'll want to work with us in future. I'm paying approximately $2.75usd per hour. At this rate I'd give him as many hours as he wants. Is this a good salary? At 50 hours per week he would make 1.1m Naira per year. I'm confused because most of the salary discussions here have assumed a benefits package including housing etc, but I am only paying the money. How much do you need to make to afford, say, a house for a small family in a safe area, with a computer and a decent internet connection? The project doesn't require any specific skills like programming etc, just perfect English fluency, good ability to use a search engine, and able to "read between the lines" of Australian news articles. So it's suitable for young people, so long as they're smart. 1 Like |

^^^ Thats peanuts you are paying that dude! What kind of job are we talking about here? |
Re: How Much is a Good Salary in Nigeria? by AjanleKoko: 9:42am On Apr 18, 2011 |
syllogism: This is a different scenario. You're not actually paying a salary here, it's more like contract wages. A contract is always a flat rate. |
Re: How Much is a Good Salary in Nigeria? by syllogism: 9:51am On Apr 18, 2011 |
This is a different scenario. You're not actually paying a salary here, it's more like contract wages. A contract is always a flat rate. Yeah, I get that. I just want to understand what he's actually being paid. I mean is he skipping meals on that money? Does he have clean clothes? I know he's not rich obviously, but I understand that in most of the world, there's poor and then there's poor and then there's "my life is in danger". I just have no idea what 1.1m Naira per year means. In Sydney the lowest rent you'll find is $250aud per week. So at $2.75aud per hour, you'd have to work 13 hours a day just to make rent and then starve. You literally could not live. But Sydney is one of the most expensive cities in the world. So I don't know.
It's a bit like data entry work. This is the project description:

Re: How Much is a Good Salary in Nigeria? by AjanleKoko: 10:14am On Apr 18, 2011 |
syllogism: 1.1m naira is something like a little under US$8k a year. For a part time gig, that's actually not bad. Something like $660 a month, which is more than what full-time engineers earn in India. |
Re: How Much is a Good Salary in Nigeria? by Sagamite(m): 12:50pm On Apr 18, 2011 |
syllogism: You didn't say what kind of work or what level (entry, junior, manager etc) of work the person is doing. But I am sure if you are paying someone in Nsukka N1.1m a year to do entry or junior work, that would be a fantastic salary in that location. |
Re: How Much is a Good Salary in Nigeria? by syllogism: 1:01pm On Apr 18, 2011 |
No specific experience is necessary to do the work, although it's difficult to do very well. Really it just requires that they can read English very well, have attention to detail, and are intelligent. Is Nsukka a poor area? I thought since it was near a university it would be less poor. |
