Opinions Wanted: Should I Leave Void In Concrete Deck? by Nyceguy92: 2:44am On Apr 02, 2016
I am gathering materials to deck a house that has a void in the building plan.
I have seen houses with void and I am concerned about the high walls and windows and the maintenance issues they pose..
As in cleaning the windows and replacing light bulbs, etc.

I feel they will soon go out of fashion, unlike the conventional deck without the void.
I also think such designs are for cathedrals and offices.

My spouse thinks the void should stay, but I need to be convinced.
What are the benefits of the void, if any?

I do not want to make a mistake.
What do you think?

It Looks to me like it's a common practice in Singapore.. Than anywhere else from what I read online.

Just try and be 100% sure why u want the void, maybe to hold meetings, relax with friends or to serve as a quick walkway..

And if y'all decide to go with it, the key would be to get a competent and certified STRUCTURAL ENGINEER to make assessment of the area and give professional advice on the right materials to use

Thanks for the input. I actually did not ask for the void. It was the architect who put it there as a design.
I am someone who goes for function rather than form.
