10 Qualities of a Student Leader We know that the school is a place where leaders are trained and the most successful way to learn is to practice, meaning in order to be a successful leader out there, you must learn how to lead your classmates, school mates and so on. I'm going to be listing several a good student union leader should have. Spread mat and grab popcorn if possible with Orijin as I go in detail Oya Leggo!!! 10 Qualities of a Student Leader 1. Dress Well: Nobody takes a student who doesn't dress well seriously, even your course mates will only relate with you on academic levels, and we both know relating with them only on academic levels doesn't make you someone they want to lead them, secondly it doesn't stop only on dressing well, you should know what to wear and when to wear it. Like the fact that official meetings are always done in corporate or native attire. Looking smart earns respect. 2. Command Respect In Your Class: Charity they say begins at home; home here being your course mates who actually should know you well more than people that are not your classmates, if you can successfully lead your classmates then you can lead people who aren't your classmates that's the logic here, this is why most of the successful unionists are course reps or departmental reps, what your course mates think of you matter a lot, if you think you wanna go far. 3. Be the Alpha: For those who don't know what being an alpha means,an alpha is someone who leads a group, well others does not question his power or leadership onus. The fact is that people will always want to know what you can do, this is where all the books on leadership come in, all those motivational quotes you know comes to play here, because I've seen where two people from the same department fought dirty because of a post in SUG, every leader has that guy or in many cases lady that wants to put sand in your garri, or even humiliate you just to show they are better than you are,bad belle they said is allowed and nobody wants to support a weak leader. 4: Be An Influence: The way people won't support a weak leader that's the same way they won't support a leader that doesn't have an influence on them, there must be something you impart in the lives of the people following you to make them keep following you, every worker has a pay right? So as a leader making policies and organising programs that help your students should be your main aim. A caring leader is a loved leader. 5.Keep Your Enemies Closer: You must have heard this point a zillion times but here is where it works, you also must have heard that politics is dirty game, well not only mainstream politics, student politics is a do or die affair for some peopleand you have to know what they are up to, this is where the wisdom of the serpent comes in, the summary of the whole point being...WATCH YOUR BACK!!! 6. Choose Your Allies Carefully: There are always those that will end up stabbing you in the back, theBrutus'of this world, as was said earlier for some people politics is a do or die affair, and they will stop at nothing to destroy you, I've heard of friends who were paid to campaign against their own friend. Doesn't mean you shouldn't trust people when making deals, always have a backup plan...Yeah humans are not really to be trusted 7. Help Your Loyalists Climb Up The Ladder: Well, we know the work is simpler when you are working with people that you trust, you work better and you are more efficient when people around you trust you and believe in your mandate, and yeah it's a way to pay them back for being loyal, everyone wants a paycheck for the work they've done, so it's a double win, happy loyalists will walk to the end of the world with you.Trust me I know, make them happy, reward them and make union work simpler for yourself. 8. Steer clear of the Management: Well, the first reason you're in school is to get your certificate andthe school management can kill your career in a matter of minutes, yeah I know this is a bit controversial but it's also wisdom, I've heard many cases of students who didn't graduate because they went onloggerheadswith the school management but if your dad is Gani Fawheimior you are heavily connected to activists then dare them all you want, but if you don't have, no matter who is pushing you, I beg of you, don't start a foolish fight, because when it will happen, people will run for you, leaving only you to suffer, I promise you 9. Steer Clear of Scandals: You might argue that this is school stuff that nobody does that, well till a girl comes out to say you raped her or you are mentioned in a secret cult case and security agents arrest you in front of your faculty. Even pictures could ruin your life, somost importantly keep your good boy status, not everybody will vote a bad guy. 10. Please Ace your Exams: 11.
