THE MESSAGE OF THE CROSS

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who being saved, it is the power of God”. This golden verse, as recorded in I Cor 1:18, and further buttressed by Isa 40: 9-11, 53: 5-6, Mark 16: 15-18, is one of the major thought provoking statements in the bible. Though simple, but fully loaded. What is the message all about? Who is giving the message? Why must one believe the message? Who are the foolish one and why are they what they are? Who are the saved and how does the message meant power to them? On and on, one could go ahead to list many questions out of the simple statement.

In Isa 40: 9-11, we could understand very clearly what this topic is all about. Another cogent point here is that for the creation to be liberated, as I have pointed out in my previous articles, we have the responsibility as sons of God to preach the good tidings to the creation everywhere: from Zion to Jerusalem to Judah, then to the nooks and crannies of the world including the village or town or city you are. In doing this, the bible admonishes us not to be afraid or fearful because Christ goes with us. What are we to do? (1) To tender the sheep (2) To gather the lambs in our arm, those that are young and weak (3) To bound the broken-hearted (4) To lead in the right path (5) To comfort the people (Is 40:1). By so doing, the glory of the Lord shall be revealed through us and all mankind shall see it (Isa 40:5). The message of the cross is that Jesus came, He died and resurrected and that He will still come unto all and the creation shall once again be glorified and beautified. “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God” (I Cor 1:18). However, as we preach the message, the ones perishing can still be saved. This is only thing you can do to make heavens rejoice, the saving of a soul! This is our great commission.

Conclusively, if ordinarily, one goes to hell because he/she has done evil or refused to accept Christ, it is the person’s choice and that is understandable, because that is right for him/her. But if one eventually find him/herself in hell simply because he/she has failed in his/her capacity to tell the people around him/her (father, mother, siblings, friends, fellow neighbourhood or workers, etc) the truth via preaching the good tiding, it will be much more terrible and pathetic, since their blood would be demanded from such a fellow. So why not tell them and save them TODAY? Peace.
