I worked hard for my crown…Asa Igbo 2014/15 We had an exclusive media chat with the winner of Asa Igbo Pageantry 2014. Due to amazing and qualitative lifestyle that characterized her reign, she represented the brand all through 2014 and successfully handed over on October 30th, 2015. This interview was one of a kind. It gave us opportunity to meet and understand the dreams of this beautiful daughter of Igbo land. She spoke to our journalist, Ethelbert Obinna Umeh on sundry issues concerning her reign, projects she had carried, and other prospective aspirations. Below are excerpts: Who is Asa Igbo 2014/15? My name is Her Royal Majesty Chibuzor Jane Nnadozie. A fresh graduate of Imo State University. I studied History & International Relations, and graduated with Honours. I came from a beautiful and people-friendly city in Ehime Mbano. Are you the first Queen of this Beauty Pageantry? Yes How did you get to know about Asa Igbo beauty Pageantry? I met Mr. Mike Akubueze, the CEO Asa Igbo Foundation at the office of the former commissioner of police, Imo State Command, Abdul Majid Ali. The CEO saw me, and was excited about my personality, sense of honesty, diligence, and love for Igbo culture and civilization. He told me about the pageantry and requested me to pick a form. I bluntly refused immediately and told me I was not interested. However, my girlfriend persuaded me to pick the form, I gave it a thought and later on picked the form, got prepared for the event. After the auditions and other logistics, I emerged as the winner on the grand finale. That was how I became the first Asa Igbo. Were you fulfilled after the event? Yes, extremely fulfilled. That was actually my first time of witnessing such pageantry. The activities of the event featured in Sun Newspapers and other local tabloids. Are you still the reigning queen? No, I have successfully handed over on October 30th, 2015. Did you carry out any project during your tenure? Yes, I carried a lot of them, and some are still on the pipeline. Tell us about these projects? First, was focused on raising the awareness of the Igbo girl child. I am an advocate of the Igbo Child education, especially that child on the street. Secondly, I made some efforts to revamp our rich cultural heritage especially our beautiful language. I tagged this project ‘ASUSU IGBO GA-ADI’ this was done within Owerri. I didn’t go outside Imo due to lack of sponsorship. However, it is important to say here that in some of my projects, I have gotten sponsorships from Pepsi, MTN Nigeria, Zanders FM, Former SSG Imo State, Sir Jude Ejiogu and so on. They were all wonderful. There were two other projects that are still in the pipeline, hoping to carry them out soonest. They are ‘smiling with the old’ and ‘organizing party/ debating competitions among the orphanage homes in Imo’ they are still on my mind, I couldn’t carry them out during my reign due to partly lack of sponsorships and crowded program which surrounded my reign, plus my tasking academic activities. I am waiting for NYSC posting to know where they will post me, and then I will make out time to carry out these projects, because they are very close to my heart. Are you an actress? Yes, I have acted in about 7 movies at the moment. But don’t get it twisted; my interest concerns everything that promotes Igbo cultural heritage, people, language and civilization. I am so passionate about it. And just like I said earlier, I am working on a project on that at the moment. Do you have suggestions for upcoming models/ beauty queens and actresses? They should be themselves, don’t try to copy someone. Work on yourself and on the things you believe in. I worked hard for my crown; it was purely based on merit. I didn’t have to mess myself up to seat on the throne. Believe in yourself, don’t be discouraged!
