If all universities in Naija are objectively and honestly/transparently rated, using world-best practices/criteria,.......believe me no private university in Nigeria would appear in a list of the top 20 or 25 Nigerian universities.

Another lie. The best institutions world wide are run my private individuals because they have lower student population to cater for unlike public run institutions that wait for budget to pass and after that, Academic Staff Unions embezzle all the money.go and ask anywhere.

When I was younger, (I think during my junior WAEC days) I was reading this current affairs booklet and I got to the page where they had the list of tertiary institutions in the country, and like every other Nigerian my eyes went straight to the list of federal institution and I love a particular one (name withheld). I had loved it just for the NAME, the past glory it enjoyed. Although my choices were limited especially as regards cost, but where I'm I driving at?
I ended up in a federal university! And I regret everyday of my life - though mildly. I have a very high CGPA, but is that what really matters?
All I ever knew from my chosen course of study are not the product of my lecturers, never! They were all from my own personal readings and research. Our education system is in shambles. Please, my federal university brothers, let's face the fact, we need a total reformation. Our lecturers are not doing their best, most of our faculties are not only understaffed but they are short-staffed. The so-called professors are unwilling to train the younger academics leaving our departments and faculties to be saturated with MSc and BSc holders (who we call Graduate assistants).
Is it the state of hostels, the mighty library infrastructures with dusty brown books resembling books for magical spells?
We shouldn't underrate our colleagues from Private Universities, if I had the money I surely would be in a private uni and if I had even more, I'll be in the UK.
Our education standards have fallen over the decade and quite frankly private universities (though not all) have come to rescue this fallen standards and the earlier we wake up to this fact, the better for us. Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth are all private Universities in the USA and are among the best in the world and are amongst the ost expensive too (with a very low % intake between 6-7%). Let us fight for quality education rather than spewing balderdash about graduating from a private or a public university.
N.B. The curricula in all Nigerian Universities are the same (regulated by NUC).
