THIS DAY IN HISTORY: IDI AMIN OF UGANDA OVERTHROWN

His Excellency, President for Life, Field Marshal Alhaji Dr. Idi Amin Dada, VC, DSO, MC, CBE ( Conqueror of the British Empire). Ye ye dey smell…. !

Today must be a day of celebration for most Ugandans as one of Africa’s foremost Dictator, Despot and mass Murderer, Idi Amin Dada was overthrown and sent into exil on this very day in 1979 when the good people of Uganda were liberated from his clutches by Tanzanian Army who captured the Ugandan capital Kampala in retaliation to a war that Idi Amin lunched against them with the help of Lybia’s Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.

His full self-bestowed title ultimately was: “His Excellency, President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor Idi Amin Dada, VC, DSO, MC, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Seas and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular”, in addition to his officially-stated claim of being the uncrowned King of Scotland. He never received the Distinguished Service Order (DSO) or the Military Cross (MC). He conferred a doctorate of law on himself from Makerere University as well as the Victorious Cross (VC), a medal made to emulate the British Victoria Cross.
