@poster its worked out for some & not too good for some others which is how everyday relationships are regardless of where you meet! not against it!

U said it all,

some Nigerians are still living in the past, IT DOES NOT MATTER WHERE U MEET, a cheat will always be a cheat, b4 facebook and other social networks comes into picture, cheating goes on, marriage breaks ups, BUT now social networks can help u catch cheaters quicker.
If u think that church is the best place to meet then think again, pple u meet in church also use social networks as well.

Stop blaming social network when ur rela/ship hits the rock

Dating on Facebook is not a bad ideal, it could actually lead to marriage, although it will favour guyz who are shy of approaching Girl, 100% ok

It all depends on what you have in mind.I mean if all you want is fun,go ahead but if for a serious relationship,to me its not advisable.how can you hook up with such a person in this present time?

Oh i love facebook!
I am not datin any one but hav seen a couple of women i wud love to put a ring on.
While its cool to meet or discuss on a forum like nairaland, connecting via facebook makes it more transparent. Though privacy may be lo, it can truely create intimacy as i hav felt sometimes. However if i can not see my new friend sooner than later then fb dating will not work for me.

@agathamari

Facebook is a social site and socializing may include dating.

I meet a lot of people via Facebook and if I can do business with them, attend events with them, share drinks with them, I see no reason why I shouldn't date one of them.

TheSeeker:
That's from your experience, but does that mean it won't work for others? You haven't witness people meeting and getting married off dating and social networking sites? That's something with us, Africans. We fail and have limited our horizon to a particular decomposing spot. This is 21st century. Everything around is changing, evolving into something better, more acceptable, adventurous and fun but Africans, as usual, have taken exception to it --- especially anything that works in the western world.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it works for everybody. I do believe however, that if you meet a liar it doesn't really have to be on the internet before he starts to show off who he really is. Even right under your nose, he can and will lie to you. Ok, how about this? You have a boyfriend whom you just have been with for a week or so -- he travels abroad a week -- are you saying you'd think he won't be worthy to be in a relationship with you? What difference does that make from someone you meet off the internet?

I've seen lots of couples who met off the internet, some got married; others are in the process. But tell an African man about internet dating, it's "not for me" "it's weird" "I can't date who I can't see, feel or touch" kinda statements will be thrown. All I'm just trying to say is, there's nothing wrong with it, it's almost-if not the same - as dating someone in person; only difference being that you can't feel or touch.

But I respect your opinion that you wouldn't do it --- it's a matter of choice, really.
