Using Jonathan And Pdp's Failings To Justify Buhari/APC's Ineptitude Must Stop. by OLADD: 10:55am On Apr 12, 2016
According to Cambridge English Dictionary, Change simply means doing something differently. In our contemporary day-to-day English, change connotes complete departure from an established position, norm, tradition, principle, attitude, behaviour, mentality etc. It also means moving from one particular state or position to another.

In the light of above definitions, admirers of the ruling (governing) party, most especially ardent supporters of President Buhari must come to term with the imperatives of realigning their mindsets to the Change Agenda of the APC government. Statements such as "did we complain when Jonathan did the same or similar thing in the past?" must be expunged from the thinking horizon and consciousness of those who truly wants Nigeria to move forward. If the main reason for rejecting PDP/Jonathan in the 2015 elections was to allow another party/president to chart a new course for our dear nation, Buhari and APC misdeeds or missteps must be laid entirely on their table instead of using Jonathan or PDP's similar aberrations as escape route.

If APC indeed promised a prudent and more purposeful governance, frugality and precinct must be seen to be their watchwords. Accusing PDP of running a wasteful and corrupt government while maintaining the status quo or even doing worst things is condemnable and hypocritical. Blaming Jonathan for deploying soldiers for elections and doing exactly the same in Rivers sounds incongruent. Accusing PDP of running a divisive adminstration but keeping mute in the face of Fulani escapades turns logics on its head. Spending millions of Naira on globe throttling while maintaining almost 10 Presidential fleet, a misnomer for which PDP was almost roasted by Lai Mohammed, Tinubu, Oyegun, Ameachi and Buhari, is nothing but festival of hypocrisy. Impoverishing the masses through oppressive policies as against ameliorating an already precarious situation does not depict positive change. The APC government must carve its own niche rather than recycling PDP's rejected ways.

Conclusively, justifying recklessness and mistakes of this adminstration on the premise of "Jonathan/PDP did the same thing" must end.

The situation is not helped by citizens here on Nairaland and elsewhere who often cite Jonathan's shortcomings to justify apparent mistakes in Buhari's govt. It's appalling and offensive to ears.

Most of them are illiterate like Buhari and don't even understand the meaning of change.

The fact that GEJ is continually being mentioned either for good or bad, shows buhari is disappointing. It is up to buhari/apc to erase the memories of GEJ with sterling performance which sadly is not the case. So GEJ just keep recurring.

Nobody raises issue on peer govt comparison but constantly excusing Buhari for his failures just because Jonathan failed in same regard is the problem. You can't say because the last administration fell short in some areas, then Buhari should not be blamed for threading same lane.

Funny but even the unlettered know what change signifies not to talk of the learned ones.

You're right to a great extent but I think most of them are already faced with the reality on ground but the shame of admitting their folly is why they keep defending Buhari's rots.

That's why I like Dele Momodu. He's not ashamed to admit when Buhari goes wrong even though he campaigned for him.

I wouldn't know why you bolded 'did' but that sentence is very correct, in case you are thinking otherwise.

Have a good day.

If the present administration can continue some of the projects started by Jonathan there is nothing wrong in blaming the Jonathan government where needed. Among the projects this administration is continuing are the 2nd niger bridge, Lagos ibadan express, various airport modernization and the now contoversial Lagos calabar rail project which along with the Kano Lagos rail project is one of the deals the president went to China for. Identifying the cause of a problem is half of the solution to the problem .

You didn't seem to fully understand the article. Nobody says blames shouldn't be apportioned if need be but my concern is about those who often cite Jonathan's failings to ratify Buhari's misdeeds. They often say "the same thing happened during Jonathan's reign hence Buhari should be spared of any castigation". For instance, when the military flagrantly disobeyed the court by deploying soldiers for Rivers election, many on Nairaland and elsewhere posited that the same thing happened under Jonathan. The question is: where is the change?

even I as Buhari supporter find it disgusting, diminishing and disgraceful.

They won't stop. For 1 whole year : "PDP 16 years of waste" bullsshit. So annoying.

I don't see PDP doing it more than APC. Even when Buhari is wrong, you guys will still mention "16 years" mantra. It's very immature and clumsy, honestly.

But anytime folks comes out to say Buhari is a dullard its never offensive to you guys, sometimes we are all guilty of what we think its offensive to us, we forget that the things we too say is offensive to others too, its time for some soul searching and decide what kind of country we want.

After all is said and done, please note that currently fuel is being sold at over N500 a litre in some parts of this country; power supply is epileptic and even erratic, inflation is galloping, prices/fares & fees are going up. Somebody get to work and quit blaming and name calling. Elections are over. Get to work and be serious! Stop telling tales by moonlight.

This thread is not about name calling but the penchant of APC supporters (just like you) who often play down Buhari's shortcomings just because Jonathan did the same thing. You don't repeat past mistakes and still profess change. It's so simple.
