the answers you get here would be relative, if i drive my car daily for at least 30KM to and from home - work, and drive on bad road you should expect i change mechanical parts frequently, if i drive say 2km from home to work daily on good road, except that car is cursed grin

i can go years on it.

3 Months, Nissan Altima 2.5s simple oil change,brake pad etc

rarely go to mechanic except to gist with them when bored at home.

I don't have a car yet, but my uncle has been driving his cars for almost 3yrs now without visiting the mechanic workshop,the mechanic only comes over to change the oil when it's due for change

Some people staying even longer than manufacturers recommended time to do their routine checks is only killing the car,and not doing what s recommended for the car.

Some might be driving with worn out brake pads,using palm oil as engine oil and still goin all D way wthout frequent change,n the long run it tells on the car,

Its no pride that your car is not properly maintained.though from here now I see most cars can go a long time wthout issues, used to think,the Nissan Quest,Altima,and some cars mentioned above can't go all the wy,but even though they do,listen to any sound from ur car and see to it immediately,don't let a tap sound lead to bang sound b4 checking wat it is.though I understand our kazeems are tricky
W124 many years just fuel,and most service is DIY except stuff underneath kazeem comes home for W210 sure will do better

Reading some comments n ppl driving for two/three years without oil/filter change shocked

Driving a car on same oil for over a 1year is not good. Oil is cheap but engine is not tongue

I use total quartz 5000 n I change oil after every 4months even if I covered less mileage.

To the lady that requested help to her hubby's car jerking...Tell your hubby to get a mechanic that can bring down the FUEL tank.., drain out all the fuels , pour about a litre of fuel in the tank and drain again. Leave the Empty TANK in the hot sun for 4 hours and then get the mechanic to put it back. refuel the car with a good fuel and come back to THANK me. make sure to come with " UKWU NWAYI OWERRI" robinson winery LOL .

I don't have anything in common with mechanics. Rather, I change my engine oil on/before two months depending on usage, l also make sure the water level, gear oil are intact. That's one secret many car users don't know.

No modern engine (manufactured after 1978) requires an oil change every 60 days. Not even a 1970 Perkins marine engine. It's a waste of money. If any manufacturer specified a lube service every 60 days, that vehicle will be a poor seller, due to higher than normal running costs.

As for coolant, it's a sealed system, and should not drop appreciably in 10 months. Mine doesn't drop in level in 2 years, which is when I flush and renew it.

Toyota Corolla 1zz engine 98 model. manufactured in 2001. Got it as tokunbo in may 2014. Never been to a mechanic apart from changing oils pads, linnings. No mechanic has touched de engine and nxt month will be two years of use.

to be honest though an oil change is due.

2009 toyota camry, got it last year Sept.

not been to the mechanic yet (so 8 months plus)

to be honest though apart from work, gym and home i rarely drive for long.

I got a toyota camry 1999 model but was made 2000 with little difference in 2013 and I only went to the mechanic November last year to fix a noise by d right front wheel,,haven't changed anything not even battery

Yes I experienced it jst 3 weeks ago hesitation/slight jerk on heavy acceleration but it was caused by bad fuel I bought. U can read d thread I created on dt.

Jerk can b caused by poor fuel delivery, bad spark plugs, poor air flow etc. Going by all u ve changed i am surprised it still jerks, Since u r in Lagos I refer u to gazzuzz workshop for solution, d guy sabi work

We hardly buy our fuel outside NNPC and we've not bought black market for more than a year now.
The last mech that took out the pump ( even though other mechs who initially worked on it said it was the fuel pump but afterwards later found out that fuel was pumping well) didn't see any thing wrong with the fuel.
So it is not the fuel at all.
He only said the pump was clogged and replaced it.
My husband is considering going back to him to collect his original pump since the pump refit wasn't the issue.

Another thing is that each time after jerking to a stop, the plugs are blackened and after cleaning them and allowing the car to cool for sometime , the car will start again.

We initially thought it was the plugs and changed it twice!

The mechs are tired of picking our calls now cos I guess they have also run out of options.
I won't mind the gazzuzz details if he can profer a permanent solution that is not too expensive cos we've spent far too much unbudgeted funds on the car and its frustrates him everyday.

I like your take on car issues. Pls I have mine.

I Change my engine oil every 2500-2700 km. And I change the filters with it. Ive not had serious issues with that. Isn't 15000km too much? Unless he's using one of those synthesised engine oils.

Also, pls what causes car ac malfunction? Gas overfill or underfill? I've heard mechanics blame either of the two. I know this isn't the topic but a man's gotta solve his problem.

Finally, a lady here is talking about her car jerking, what's your take on it. Thanks.

2008 nissan altima, 18 months asides brakepad/oil change
for now,although the rotors are warped, so i will be changing it very soon.
2009 yaris hatchback, 9 months asides oil change.
Since the fuel scarcity i have abadoned the altima and embraced the yaris lovingly.The yaris is Rugged, highly fuel efficient and dependable.
The altima is my companion before the warped rotors and fuel scarcity. Have missed its Chilly AC and nice sound system.
