Osun: Things Fall Apart…and The Centre Can No Longer Hold! by Nobody: 10:26pm On Apr 15, 2016 |
‘Turning and turning in the widening gyre; the falcon cannot hear the falconer; things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world' - W.B. Yeats In my wildest of imaginations, I wished I could write this piece and make Yeats turn in his grave and give me a heads up. Can I? It should be left for you to judge! In the tale of Osun State and its constant metamorphosis into the State of Osun under Rauf Aregbesola, one could immediately say that W.B. Yeats must have been a prophet. How will a poem written many years ago describe so aptly the situation being experienced many more years after? How could Yeats have been so prophetic that he will describe in such deep manner the present state of a dying State in our own Nigeria? Shall I explain without getting myself into entanglements of emotions and poetic confusion? Ok…let me try! In this constantly unfolding tale, the roles are shared thus so we can clearly understand: a. The Widening Gyre - This role is clear enough. This is our ever-increasing debt size. The abyss keeps deepening and widening and it seems endless. When Osun received #6million allocation leftover last month, many people felt sorry for our State. The joke was obviously on Osun State; some infact said by December, Osun will receive its leftover allocations as recharge cards. Who knows if this joke will become another prophecy? b. The Falcon - These are the people of Osun State. The falconer is using their strength and their resource for his personal gains. Most of them can hardly hear the falconer again as hunger seem to be blinding and deafening them. Can we blame them? They trusted a slave-master! c. The Falconer - Here is the slave-master himself, Governor Rauf Aregbesola. So, what is the unfolding tale of events in Osun State? Let us ask Prophet Yeats…. Osun is turning and turning in its WIDENING DEBT; the PEOPLE can no longer the slave-master RAUF AREGBESOLA; things have completely fallen apart and the centre has broken down….. Will complete anarchy be loosed upon Osun State? Let us wait till 2018 and see….but it will depend on how much common sense the Osun people have managed to allow hunger activate within them. Namaste!
