I would like to say that you will not hear many sermons or preaching on Psalm 137 in your lifetime. It’s not the kind of psalm that lends itself to easy preaching. Some texts are fun to preach because they’re obviously helpful and easy to apply. Not Psalm 137. It contains difficult words.

In fact, verse 9 is probably the most difficult verse in the book of Psalms. It’s a verse that may cause some to doubt the inspiration of the Bible. How can the Bible be inspired by a God of love when it contains a verse like, “How blessed will be the one who seizes and dashes your little ones against the rock”? How can such a verse be reconciled with Jesus’ command to love our enemies?

It seems to glorify revenge in the most awful way. Need more clarifications

137:7 Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; WHO said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.137:8 O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.

This verse is talking about the little ones of the captors.

The scenerio is the children of Israel live in captivity and hardship being inflicted by the captors.

The particular bible verse was originally written in Hebrew, praying God should deliver them and avenge the evil their captors had meted out on them.

It might not literally means using the little ones as hammers to hit stones.

Maybe the answer is the more obvious one--the bible is not perfect. Yet, whole lives are based upon it as the fundamental of existence.
