Ignorant Nigerians. Always making comments on what they know little or nothing about. What is wrong with merging the two? I suggest that Africa religion should also be included to provide an opportunity for our children to know about other religions. This is how it is done in most enlightened parts of the world. This will promote better co-habitation and make us to be more tolerant of each other. Nice one minister. Well done! 1 Like |

The way most people commented show that we really need this merge. Remember is not only religion studies, other subjects like civic education, security and social studies make up this subject. I believe we need it now in Nigeria. As for somebody saying how do we get teachers for it. I expect all colleges of education to start it as a course for aspiring students. Then, we are endowed in Nigeria. We have enough human power to do that. Don't worry be happy now |

What is with Nigerian leaders and stvpid stvpid policies? They do not think things true at all!! This has to be the worst decision ever. Scrapping both religion is far better than merging them again. It seems like they have forgotten that we have regions with mainly Christians/Muslims. Even in the SW where it is mixed, we seem to have daft teachers that promote hate in class. This nonsense will give daft teachers the opportunity to ridicule the other religion and demeaning their adherents. If they are keeping religion to retain morality, they should have introduced philosophy as a subject with Abhrahimic religions as one of the topics under the course. 1 Like |

modath:That fine art is or may not be of importance to your chosen career path does not make it obsolete or irrelevant to the present world we live in. A respected discipline depends to a reasonable extent on fine art, only if you would prove to me that architecture is useless and 'waste of valuable time' will I accept your sentiments about fine art as true. What should be done to fine art and other subjects that suffer the same fate is to get competent instructors/teachers and we'll equipped laboratories in our schools, the course will definitely add value to our national life. On the merger of CRS/IRS, somebody above already debunked that false rumour. Let‘s desist from spreading misfortune and lies. Thanks GOD bless Nigeria 2 Likes |

This move by the Federal Ministry of Education is unconstitutional. It offends Section 38 (2), which provides as follows: "No person attending any place of education shall be required to receive instruction or to take part in or attend any religious ceremony or observance if such instruction, ceremony or observance relates to a religion other than his own or a religion not approved by his parent or guardian." Section 38 (2) is so succinct and straightforward that it requires no further adumbration from me. Except to summarize: This move is patently unconstitutional: Drop it 2 Likes |

These people just won't let sleeping dogs lie, merging two different ideologies together would obviously cause a breakout of conflict, because there are two sides to a coin which can never see each other,u can't see the two sides at the same time can you,by the time a Muslim student argues about what is being taught in the christian side and the christian student argues vice versa, there will be sentiments and from there it will escalate, pls just leave it alone, abi have u ever seen a mosque and a church together 1 Like 1 Share |

This is a good development. In more advanced world, the curriculum religious education in primary and secondary school includes Christian, Islam, Buddism, Hindu, etc. |

One of Nigeria's biggest problem is religion. In advanced countries there's nothing like religious studies in primary or secondary schools and if you must have religious studies shouldn't it be about the different types of religion? Those criticizing this merger are the dumbass, ignorant simpletons with nothing to offer but loud mouth ramblings. I'd rather my child be educated and enlightened by knowing the different types of religion out there and then make a decision than for him or her to be ignorant and believe that one religion is supreme over the other! |

modath: I strongly disagree with you, dear. I support the teaching of all vocational subjects in schools. I studied Fine Arts in the University, I never lacked, during and after school. I remember when we went for written interview in my local government, when my state was employing secondary school teachers in 2010, we were not more than twenty, that came for Fine Arts while those that came for other subject areas were about 200 per subject. In the present day Nigeria, self employment pays. Even our salaries in the government sector does not come as fast as it used to. If not for my printing jobs, I for don cast since. Bottom line is that I love and respect all vocational subjects. |

I really find the ''security education'' interesting. That shows our educationists are dynamic with changing time. However, true education cannot happen in Africa, as long as English language is a prerequisite for knowledge acquisition. Same applies to Francophone African nations. The foolery in this is that our system of education cuts off a good chunk of the African population from knowledge acquisition. The stupidity in this is very overwhelming, if you understand it. A reason Lord Kwame Nkrumah said ''western education is a fraud''. |

NwaEzefuNaMba: No. YOU are finished, because all the education in the world has failed to instill common sense in your head. People with sense have been telling you and your fellow myopic clowns that there was no merger of the subjects...they are just being put in a group called 'Religious and National Values' and will remain as distinct subjects yet you people are going to town with wrong info. I'm just tired of you fellows. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Buhari has NEVER hidden his islamization agenda. I am wondering what Papa Adeboye would be feeling now. Merging Christian and Islamic studies is a Brilliant idea.. If we were to voteon this, it has my 100% support. Ignorance of a key religion in Nigeria is bad. Teach both, not with a view to converting any one, but to foster better understanding of both religions. 1 Like |

I think this is a good move. That Islam and Christianity is taught in school is not the same as practicing it. After all, how many of the things we learned in school are we practicing, but we have an idea of it. |
