This is one hell of a question.

It depends on the stage in his/her life that I finally figured out that he/she is gay.

If I'm acquainted with the fact that he/she is gay at say when he/she is betwixt age 13-17, it'd be easier to correct his/her abominable wont with series of talks and therapy. Reprogramming of his/her mindset becomes a bit difficult when he/she is already 18+, because technically, he/she is an adult and is free to make his/her decisions.

Lemme use the 13-17 age bracket as exempli grata in this scenario.
If I found out my teen-aged child is homö, the first thing to do would be to sleuth deeper and understand the raison d'être behind it.
I'd try to discern whether he/she has trouble approaching or conversating with the opposite sëx, whether TV/Movies is to blame, or whether the bane of it all is peer pressure.

After doing that, I'd counsel him/her but not push too hard so as not to drive a wedge between us. If he has problem approaching girls, I'd teach him how to chat up females and be by his side for moral support whenever he wants to hobnob with a dame.


It's not gonna be easy for any parent though - especially the hômophobic ones.

Sometimes i do accept homosexuality as part of their lifestyle and i try tp respect them and i see it as their private life BUT when the person is close to me i feel like terminating the person life.



I can't stand gays but i see myself overlooking lesbian which is hypocrisy on my part.


I can't reconcile how i will accept it if my child tells me she is gay. I might have heart seizure at this my young age.

If after two or three tête-a-tête and he/she dourly chooses not to desist from such act, then my next line of action would be to advise him to move out of the country or be prepared to live constantly looking over his/her shoulders since homosexuality is a criminal act in Nigeria. That's the best I can do as a father.
