The ongoing trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, took a dramatic twist on Thursday as Saraki’s counsel, Paul Usoro gave details of various transfer of funds by the Senate President to his foreign account as governor.

Usoro made the revelation after the prosecution witness, Michael Wetkas refused to read the various transfers of Saraki from his Guaranteed Trust Bank account to his American Express Service, New York account.

Wetkas had declined pointing out the various transfers as contained in the documents tendered before the tribunal, saying the transfers were many, hence details “may take the whole day.”
Following Wetkas response, Usoro started reading out the transfers with the witness admitting same.

According to Usoro, Saraki carried out the transfers from his GTB account to his American Express Bank, New York account.

This is the break down of the transfer, “March, 3, 2011, $30,656.74; February, 2, 2011, $32, 687; October, 18, 2010, $48,900; September, 2, 2010, $18,000; August, 32, 2010, $100,000; May 18, 2010, $134,000; Jan 21, 2010, $64,000; July 29, 2010, $80,984; August 26, 2011, $65,000; Jan, 27, 2012, $145,000;

“February 2,2012, $94,754.63; February 20, 2012, $77.000; March 29 2012, $70.648; May 11 2012, $70.000; May 5, 2012, $55.000, June 12 2012, $89.411; December 18, 2012, $400,153; October 11, 2012, $130, 400; September 24 2012, $45, 308.”

Wetkas, however, agreed to the figures, noting that the commission stumbled on these during its investigation

Saraki's pressmen are on fire. Bringing all manner of reports from the CCT.

With his trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal scheduled for Friday, March 11, 2016, Senate President Bukola Saraki’s aides have given bribes to judiciary numerous reporters based in Abuja in order to shape the reporting of the trial, two reliable sources have confirmed to SaharaReporters.

An undercover investigator for SaharaReporters was present when Mr. Saraki’s aides met with Judiciary reporters inside an Abuja garden called Nelson Nuek Gardens, and handed each of the reporters the sum of N50,000. The garden is located in the Central Business District of Abuja, quite close to the International Conference Center.

Our major source, who was present at the parley, disclosed that all the judiciary reporters covering Mr. Saraki's case attended the meeting where bribes were handed out.

Our two sources disclosed that Chuks Okocha, a special assistant to the Senate President, distributed Mr. Saraki’s cash largesse to the reporters. At the meeting, the senator’s aides struck a deal with the reporters to have only one of the friendly reporters write a report of the trial which would then be syndicated among all the reporters. It was agreed that each reporter would merely retouch the syndicated report and send it to their medium.

Before his appointment as Mr. Saraki’s aide, Mr. Okocha had worked for Thisday newspaper group, owned by Nduka Obaigbena.

One of our sources revealed that Mr. Okocha warned the reporters that the Senate President’s office would not tolerate any negative reports by the reporters who collected the bribe.Saraki's spokesperson Yusuf Olaniyonu was being awaited when our investigator left the meeting.

Senator Saraki is being prosecuted for alleged false declaration of assets. All his attempts to use political contacts and appellate courts to scuttle his trial failed. Last week, he unveiled a new legal team led by a former Attorney General of Nigeria, Kanu Agabi, who once supervised the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Danlami Umar, and who while as a minister of justice recruited Rotimi Jacobs, the chief prosecutor against Mr. Saraki.

OP I don't know what to call you but to say that you are not fit to be here! Look at the way you wrote the subject line as if it was the law that reveal those evidence, so what is (dramatic) here? If the witness refused to read the acclaimed evidence and the lawyer volunteer to read so what is dramatic here?

My issue with you here is that trying to use your deficiency to understand why the lawyer have to read to mislead people.

If Saraki's lawyer is tendering this evidence, it would mean it forms part of their case?

However, the prosecutor said it'll take the whole day hence the omission. Is this revelation harmful to their case?

Lawyer in the building please tell us the implications of this because it's coming from defence council instead of prosecuting

The essence is to counter the above.
It is against the prosecution that is why the WITNESS refused to read it when he was asked to.
They are shaking the credibility of the PW1.
They are building ground for technicalities

Since its the defence council that is providing and reading the evidence,it Is a plus on there side, because any conflicting issue recorded in any criminal cases is resolved in favour of the accused.

See Evidence act 2011,cap.e14
