NANS Set To Protest Peacefully on behalf of UNIPORT students tomorrow. by SKAMM(m): 8:47pm On Apr 23, 2016
The National association of nigerian students
(NANS) has sent a statement to the
management of Uniport, to come to a
reasonable agreement with the students, else
there will be another protest on monday.
The communique issue is stated below, do well to read: A COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY NATIONAL
ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS (NANS)
ZONE B AFTER A FACT FINDING MISSION TO
UNIVERSITY OF PORTHARCOURT ON THE STUDENTS
PROTEST OF UNIVERSITY OF PORTHARCOURT AND
THE KILLING OF COMRADE PETER OFURUM; THE FACULTY PRESIDENT OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCES.

After the fact finding mission, extensive
deliberation and consultation of the students
community within and outside the zone (South
South and South East Nigeria), we resolved and

Demand as follows:

1) We call on the Federal Government and the
Governing Council to immediately remove/sack
the Vice Chancellor of University of
Portharcourt; Prof. Ndowa Lale; for his
ineptitude and complicity in the killing of
Comrade Peter Ofurum.

2) We declare VACANT office of the Vice
Chancellor University of Portharcourt and
hereby call on the Governing Council to begin
the process of appointing a new Vice
Chancellor.

3) The immediate Removal/Resignation of the
Dean of Students Affairs; Dr. Otu Ekpeyong,
for incompetence and failure to strengthen
the tie and bridge the gap between the School
management and the students.

4) The immediate Removal/Resignation of the
Deputy Registrar Information (Public Relations
Officer); Dr. Williams Wodi, for misinforming
the general public on issues leading to the
protest and students welfare.

5) The immediate Removal/Resignation of the
University Chief Security Officer (CSO); Col.
Reginald Isigwuzo Rtd, for ordering men of the
Nigeria Police to shoot at unarmed Nigerian
Students during the protest.

6) That the University management should
liaise with Nigeria Police Force and other
Security Agencies to fish out the killer of
Comrade Peter Ofurum and immediately bring
him/her to book as we demand Justice.

7) That the University management should
liaise with parents of the deceased and other
injured victims to pay for all medical bills.

cool That the University management should
immortalize Comrade Peter Ofurum on campus.

9) That the NO SCHOOL FEE; NO EXAMINATION
policy by the University of Portharcourt should
be immediately abolished.

10) Haven equally noticed the difficulty
experienced by Parents/Guardians of the
Students in payment of school fees as a result
of the high rate of school fee of the University
of Portharcourt, compared to the fee of other
Federal Universities in the country. We therefore demand an immediate reduction of
the school fees as education cannot be the
exclusive preserve of the rich.

11) That the School management should
immediately review the Faculty statutory and
non-statutory charges.

12) That the University management should
immediately retract the statement of the
suspension of the Students' Union
Government.

13) That NO student should be victimized or
asked to pay for anything on the resumption
of school.

14) NANS ZONE B appreciates the solidarity of
Trade Union Congress (Rivers State) in our
moment of discomfort, while assuring them
of our unalloyed support at anytime.

15) That the University management should
immediately Set-Up a PANEL OF ENQUIRY,
consisting of the management, Security
Agencies (Internal and External) and Students
representatives, to ascertain the immediate
and remote cause of the crisis and forestall future occurrence (s).

16) That the management should comply with
the above Demands within the next 7 Days or
