Action Congress governorship candidate in Osun State, Engr. Rauf Aregbesola has been arrested.

He was picked up at about 9.25a.m today by policemen who stormed his residence at 1, Fatai Street, Alimosho.

He was whisked away to SCID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos. No reason was given for his arrest.

There are indications that he might be transferred to Abuja because the warrant for his arrest was issued by the authorities from Abuja.

P.M.News sources disclosed that Aregbesola remained in high spirits and unruffled.

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos last week refused to grant Aregbesola’s application praying the court to restrain the police from arresting him.

Justice Akinjide Ajakaiye said he could not bar the police from performing their constitutional duties of arresting or investigating a matter.

Aregbesola had instituted a N20b fundamental human rights enforcement suit against the police and the state government after he was accused by the immediate past Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro, of forging a security report to prosecute his case at the Election Petition Tribunal in Osun State.

The Police were actually waiting for the court pronouncement on the case he instituted. Oyinlola should be happy now but its a sort of happiness that will be short-lived.
