Dear nairalanders


i am about to make one of the most important decision of my life.. If not the most important..


I have always have passion for military and security jobs... I love the adventure and pride that comes with the job..


Though i am aware that the nature of the job is not like call of duty or frontline commando where you can come back to life after getting killed.. I still love the job


to the main deal... Now i told my uncle who happens to be a high ranking DSS officer that i would like to be a DSS operative when i graduate from the university... He said the DSS doesn't recruit like any other security agencies and that their selection and training procedures are tough... But i am optimistic i can pass...


Now the main issue is that this evening a friend of mine advise me to join the army.. He argued that the army is way better than the DSS.


I am kind of confuse and i need your suggestions and advice..

Between the directorate of state security and the Nigerian Army.. Which one is better in terms of:


1. Equipment
2, training
3. Respect and prestige
4. Career security
5. Professionalism
6. Funding

Flee DSS no man of conscience or integrity will last there....chose the army, your family will be abreast of your whereabouts and they respect themselves. DSS is for dirty jobs generally which after retirement may haunt you for ever.

Dss is beta..i hav a relation doing dt job trust me is a nice job cuz he is doing just fine..though he told me it dependz on where u ar posted to...if nt Dss airforce will be nice

Military is divided into 3 arms: Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air force and Nigerian Navy, The Form for officers in Air force has closed, Army is on going and Navy will be out before the end of the year.
Air force is the most organised of the 3 but Navy have more money and Army is the least of the 3 but easiest to join and Navy is the hardest to join.

No job like a military job man, trust me. Have been asking myself,can I do another job aside a military one? Hmmmm only time will tell Good luck with yours

P'S: don't know anything about DSS except from the dirty jobs they do for government in power

Army violates human right, you may get stuck at seargent rank till you retire sef. No good payment, no after retirement benefits if you get posted to northeast after like one or two tours, you'll get POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER. Dss is just abt secret missions to kill and abduct and kill and kill and kill and kill. This would haunt your conscience Forever

Join the army,,, and end up in BORNO state,,, I smell shekau bullet in ur head,is not advisable to join any force now Nigeria is about to be in another civil war

Look for USA or Canadian visa and join the USA army or Canadian Army. Thank me later.





Nobody should come preach patriotism here for me. The Nigerian Government does not care for our soldiers. They are so neglected and mostly die like fowls and the Government refuses to pay adequate compensation to their families.

DSS is a nice job, you get to do a lot of dirty jobs but expect you and your family to get spied by CIA, MI6 and other major intelligence agency across the globe. Depending on what you did, your life could become miserable after retirement from DSS. The Army is better bro. And know you won't get stuck at Sergeant because after graduating from the university and completing your NYSC program, if you make it to the Army, you will start at the rank of 2nd Lieutenant and you will remain there for 18 months before you get promoted to the rank of a Lieutenant. Depending on how well you perform, you can be placed as a Platoon Leader. Platoon Leaders are normally within the Lieutenant and 2nd Lieutenant ranks. After two years (that is, 3 years and 6 months), you become eligible to get a promotion to the rank of Captain and this of course will depend on your performance as a Lieutenant. After 3 years you become eligible to get a promotion to the rank of Major.

Reason? 1. You have a backup in the organization (your uncle). 2. More respect, more incentives and salary pay. 3. Less expose to war front, instead gathers intelligent for the army.

Bro be through with ur schooling first, then u come back to ask this question. I bet u a lot of things would have change before then.
