THE recently sacked Commander of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger-Delta (MEND), Bayelsa State Chapter, Mr Ebikabowei Victor Ben (aka) General Boyloaf, yesterday led 32 other leaders of militant group to ASO ROCK to meet President Umaru Yar’Adua, where they publicly accepted the amnesty deal offer from the President at a brief ceremony. He spoke as President Yar’Adua declared that those expecting the development of the region to be carried overnight should have a rethink saying that “development in the region will be rapid but it will not be over night because it takes time. f you want to construct a 200 kilometer road it will take between two to three years no matter how hard you try. So it is important to have this peace and security”. Boyloaf however threatened that unless President Yar’Adua, in the shortest possible time adopts a holistic developmental approach to region, MEND would not hesitates to take up arms against the Federal Government adding that MEND is accepting amnesty following Henry Okah’s release, and as such, Yar’Adua must immediately commence the other part of the bargain. |

yorubaman i grew up with ebikabowei ben (BOYLOAF) in amadi-ama phc, he's younger ones where good friends of mine, he is from ezetu in southern ijaw local govt of bayelsa state, i know when he started his foray from bunkeering to militancy, he was very loyal to asari then, one of asari's trusted aides in as much as he might have his motives in doing what he did, there was something i did know he really wanted a change just like all of us youths from the niger delta area, you can never understand what we go thru here in the delta unless u from here too bad ur not. so is not about being fat and robust if not people like baitullah meshud the taliban commander in pakistan wouldn't be termed a militant, its about fighting for what u believe in whether your fat or thin. |
