Antonio Conte is an Italian coach who is set to become Chelsea new Manager at the beginning of next season. Let take a look at how the former Juventus coach makes his team play and how it may just work out fine for Chelsea.

Antonio Conte loves to set up his team with 3-5-2 formation with three midfielders to control the tempo and pace of the game, three Defenders to counter the threats of the opponent, two wing backs who sprint up and down the whole game, making it a natural 5-3-2 when defending.

Let’s look at the conte’s tactical set-up and see how it can be a perfect fit at Chelsea :

This is the typical shape of Conte’s team when in possession of the ball, the wing backs will move up the pitch as fast as they can while the Midfielders has the possession of the ball, the midfield consist of a central midfield who will more often control the tempo of the match, the two winger midfielders will stay in between to help the wing backs wide or move into central to support centre-forwards.The two centre-forwards are separated into one Centre forward and one Striker who will just play in behind the main striker to link up play centrally from the middle.

This is the tactical shape when the team is defending, we can clearly see it back to five defenders with wing backs moving back and stopping the opponent attack threats, the two wide midfielders will support them if the need arises or they will be contention to fill the gap in between the central-Defenders and the full backs, that half space is an important part of the field to defend. The central midfielder will track back to mark the attacking midfielder of opponent from the midfield.

The two forwards in this situation will become a bit alert to exploit the spac left by the opposition fullback, if the ball is gained one will receive in wide area and the other one will make a run towards the far post area to launch a counter-attack.

Antonio Conte want his midfielders to control the pace and tempo of the match with possession on the ball in the middle of the pitch, it allows the full backs to move forward and join the attacking play and it also allows the two Strikers to occupy the space between opposition centre-backs.

This was a summary of Antonio Conte’s tactical play and we expect a robust midfield from the Italian when he moves to Chelsea this summer.

The former Juventus tactician may just be the right manager to take Chelsea forward and get them back to European football.

However, many believe it is a gamble by Roman Abramovich to appoint the Italian but tactically Conte could just fit at Chelsea.
The time will only tell what is in place for us to witness from Antonio Conte at Chelsea come next season.

Conte - a great coach. I think Chelsea were lucky to get him. Competition in England is growing every year, come new players, managers. I am sure, when Conte many players will be able to return to his best level, such as Eden Hazard - https://www.naij.com/802837-conte-successfully-persuades-hazard-to-stay.html
Already I am looking forward to next season.
