Sentiments aside. She said the truth. As long as you choose to criminalize gay people, you are going to send them underground. It is the same problem the black american community are facing in America. Black Americans for the most part detest homosexuals and treat them badly. This gave birth to the down-low culture. In other words, black men who are gay and will go and date women, even marry them and then still have sex behind their backs with fellow men. Some of these black men started infecting these women with all manners of STDs/STIs.

It is common knowledge that once you criminalize people, they go into the closet. They don't stop what they are doing, they just do it in secret. There are many Nigerian men and women who are married to members of the opposite gender but continue to have intimate relationships with members of the same gender.
