At this point in time, we all have cell phones, even small children.  It is a way for families to stay in touch during these times and we have become so accustomed to it that we do not consider that anything could be wrong with it. However, the cell phone is a highly complicated device and not all of them are made the same. Some of them even have serious problems that can cause you harm.

In this case, 13-year-ol Gabbie from Chicago found out just how dangerous these cell phones can be when she suffered 3rd-degree burns after using her device.  It all began when Gabbie got her first cell phone, a T-Mobil LG d500 for Christmas.

HER MOTHER, JACKIE FEDRO DECIDED TO TELL HER DAUGHTER’S STORY IN ORDER TO WARN OTHERS OF THIS DANGER.



Gabbie was using her phone in her room when all of a sudden Jackie heard her scream in pain! What she found shocked her.

SHE SAW THAT THE PHONE HAD BURNED HER DAUGHTER’S NECK.



GABBIE WAS GRABBING HER NECK WHILE SCREAMING HYSTERICALLY FROM THE PAIN.



The whole thing occurred when she was talking on the phone while it was plugged into the wall.

THE CHARGER ACCIDENTALLY TOUCHED HER NECK AND THIS SENT AN ELECTRICAL CURRENT AROUND HER NECK CAUSING IT TO BURN.



While these injuries are rare, they do happen and there are several documented cases a year.  Usually, the phone causes injury if the lithium ion battery is overheated. Also, another big danger is when you purchase a third party charger that is not equipped to handle your specific phone.

THAT’S WHY IT’S IMPORTANT TO USE THE CHARGER PROVIDED BY THE MANUFACTURER ONLY.



he phone was purchased at the T-Mobil store.  T-Mobile has offered to pay her daughter’s medical bills and send her a new phone in exchange for the old one. They wanted it back for testing.

HER DAUGHTER IS HEALING.



However, this incident has left a mark that will last a long time.

JACKIE TELLS THIS STORY IN HOPES THAT OTHERS WILL TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS WHEN USING THEIR CELLULAR DEVICES.
