In an earlier thread, i stated that i'm shopping for a used suv.budget $5000 to $8000

i recently came across mzda tribute 2006 model. looks like a good buy. but apparently it has a transmission issue. according to forums etal. the transmission starts misbehaving btw 80,000 to 120,000 miles. can any user or dealer of mazda suvs confirm this? thanks.

I understand that their automatic tranny's are builth by Ford, a company that is notorious for transmission issues. If you must buy Mazda Tribute or 626, I will advise you to go for manual tranny which is very reliable compared to their auto trannys.

True that! As a matter of fact i believe that Ford Owned a substantial part of Mazda. The tribute is same as Ford escape. With that said, you should get a manual tranny if you must get a Mazda, otherwise your money is in the range of a good 4runner/Pathfinder of 2001/2002 depending on mileage.
