N165bn monthly salaries of federal civil servants not sustainable, says finance minister!! Adeosun who was speaking on the economy reform agenda of the government, said that the N165 billion being paid to federal civil servants monthly represented 40 per cent of the total spending of government. She said the figure was too high and government was pursuing aggressive measures to detect and prosecute ghost workers and other saboteurs in the system. “We spend 165 billion every month on salaries and when I came in there was no checking. “Now, we have created a unit assigned with the sole responsibility of checking the salaries and catching those behind the over bloated salaries,’’ she said. Adeosun said that the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) introduced by the previous administration were faulty and sabotaged by the element benefitting from the salary fraud. She said that many Federal Government establishments including the Police were yet to be captured in the system. According to her, it is shocking that the Nigerian Railway Corporation which was not fully functioning still had 10,000 workers in its payroll serviced by government. 2 Likes 1 Share |

God will help us through this difficult economic times, Buhari means well but oil price is down, we are underproducing at only 1.7 million barrels, Niger delta militants just bombed another pipeline, dollar is scarce, foreign investors have run away and importers and exporters are smuggling instead of using our ports thus dwindling Customs revenue. They shared only 299 Billion last month amongst the three tiers of government so you can see why they have to borrow just to pay salaries of workers!! 10 Likes |

ShowYourCertificate: Hehehe. This isn't something peculiar to Nigeria alone. Even the almighty US raised concerns sometime in September, last year about government employees outnumbering manufacturing employees by almost 1.8 to 1. Ideally, the government exists to create an enabling environment for businesses. The manufacturing industry accounts for a larger chunk of employment generation, while the middle class should be there to spur growth by means of their expenditures. Government usually employs so much in order to keep pace with population growth, as manufacturing is incapable of absorbing the number all on it's own. So, having such overblown recurrent expenditure is an aberration, not the rule. I don't see how what she says implies an impending collapse like you are inferring. Pidggin: And you should be thankful for the change, were it not so, things could have been worse by now. Imagine experiencing such economic downturn coupled with pilfering, cronyism and rarefaction... that's way more scary! Besides, NOI was already trumpetin "no money", "prepare for hard times ahead!".... blablabla. Do those sound like melodies to you? Had they made it back, you would have experienced a change that wasn't even talked about, a quite nasty one at that. E for be double wahala for dead body! 20 Likes 2 Shares |

Another attack on Nigerians. Is there a reason why they brought this lady from the UK to come and pour hatred on the average Nigerian? Its like she spies on what people are doing and then utilizes measures to block and frustrate them, if not harm them. And unfortunately, she is doing so using the financial resources of the Nigerian government which were placed at her disposal. 2 Likes |

Pidggin:It is not new to all that the number of civil servants on government payroll is over bloated. States equally have the challenge before them too. She has not explicitly said that FG will either owe salaries in the months to come or lay off active workers. Sacking of ghost workers is not an issue that should be wailed over by anybody. 8 Likes 1 Share |

Pidggin: It will do you a lot good if you take time and read the piece bit by bit to have a full grasp of the content. To help you, what she is saying is that, there are lot of suspected ghost worker that may have bloated the salaries allocation. If not checked, FG may not live to her obligation. Furthermore, the earlier you come out from the shock of 2015 general election the better for you and people around you. 13 Likes 2 Shares |

It can't be sustainable because you lack the intellect to manage the nation's resources. You are the worst thing to happen to our economy just like the herdsman who employed you is the worst thing to ever happen to our nation. You can't sustain payment of salaries but you have money to refund campaign expenses in the name of bail-out which you cunningly extended to some PDP states also so that they would not suspect you. Your gross ineptitude stinks to the heavens and am ashamed you are from my race. You claim to be the nation's chief account officer and yet don't know how much is in the excess crude account and amount that has been recovered through the TSA. Only a herdsman could have employed a B.Sc. Econs holder with inadequate experience, when there are thousands of highly qualified technocrats in the nation without necessarily going abroad to bring "aloku oyinbo' (white man-rejected). God bless Iweala, Soludo and their seeds. Those are technocrats who spoke authoritatively with facts and figures, and not an ordinary bank teller whose political connection and beauty earned commissioner/minister of finance. 7 Likes |
